It seems you are confusing the mentioned Android update to Pie (9.0) to be related with Jollas Aliendalvik compatibility layer for XA2. These are completely unrelated. Jolla is working to adapt their Aliendalvik compatibility to thethe XA2. But that will be based on Oreo (8.1) and is not dependent on any official Sony system updates.
It's just hard work to adapt to Android hardware (thanks to closed source binary blobs) so this is why there's a delay for the XA2.
