Depending on your use case, you may just want to enable Close tab and disable Favorites buttons in portrait mode, so the result would look like this:

Back button gets pushed to the right because Favorites disappeared. You can still find it in the landscape mode.

I found this setup personally more comfortable; I can reach the back button easier with right hand, I use tabs quite often and I don't use favorites much after initial setup of bookmarked sites.
