How long will the Jolla phone be supported?
Hello!
I'm considering buying the Jolla phone. It's already been out for two years. Is there an official position on how long it will be supported with security and/or software updates? If not a position, then perhaps a hint?
I think this question is very important. I know a bunch of people who have considered buying Jolla, but some of them have been afraid of buying a device which is "so old". They know what happens to an apple after couple of years...

SailfishOS 2.0 will be out for our jollas in the next weeks, so looking back to 18 months of SaiflishOS 1.x updates and security fixes, you can be sure support will last at least to the final version of SailfishOS 2.x. If it takes another 18 months for SailfishOS 3.0 to come, this would be an amazing support period of 3 years. And if the specs allow it, I'm sure even SailfishOS 3.0 will be available for our already aged jolla.
Anna ( 2015-07-23 00:57:57 +0200 )edit@JollaFan922 don't think too much about it. Jolla always listened to the community, actually I think 95% of SailfishOS user are owning a Jolla smartphone. Yes there are plans for a Jolla Smartphone from Intex, but rumors are saying with similar specs as Jolla Phone. I think SailfishOS will get a big player in future if they are going on with security and privacy feature but I don't think that everybody is going to buy a Intex smartphone, most Users are very well perfoming with Jolla Phone (including me). I'm not afraid of trying new things and having a phone which is not fully developed. I really enjoy waiting for new releases every month or at least every two months and trying the features, therefore I'm on the early adopters list, trying the new build before and helping to fix bugs. If you don't want to, you can install the latest official releases without problems. I think support for Jolla smartphone will only end if the limited RAM (1GB) extended with ZRam is not enough anymore to fullfill the requirements for the latest release. Also I think Jolla was working on a new phone, which will maybe be released under Jolla Mobile Oy, the new device conpany.
