Android Media Selector confused

For some reason my media selector remembers the last view. However, I've manoeuvred myself into a subfolder-view, a cul-de-sack. I cannot go up any more. I'm stuck.
What I want to do is attaching a picture to a message in an Android messenger app.
Is there a way to reset the Android picture gallery so that I can see all folders again? Or any other solution?
