Will the Jolla Tablet have the ability to connect to Ad-hoc Wifi Hotspots?

The answere given in this question by @llornkcor does not explain why there is no ad-hoc connection support on jolla phone sadly, so maybe it is a specific downside of the phones hardware?

Or is it a software implementation to allow sailfish to connect to Ad-hocs and we may see this coming in sailfish 2.0 in future?

Concidering we do not have a sim slot in the tablet, it may become a raising issue to some people using seperate data simcards not beeing able to connect to (n900/n9/n808) ad-hoc hotspots.

There's nothing in the Jolla phone HW that would prevent using WLAN in adhoc mode. It just has not been enabled in connman. To turn it on you just need to have a different connman version.

I'd say the probable reason why it has not been enabled is that it makes little point in a phone. However a tablet might be a different thing, adhoc does kind of make sense in some marginal cases. (really marginal IMHO, and only if you are using some pretty odd piece of equipment as access point)

Rationale why adhoc is not very usable; in adhoc mode the terminal device consumes more battery when compared to infrastructure mode, also almost all accesspoints nowdays support infrastructure (including the Jolla phone in network sharing mode) Actually as far as I know only some really old devices like Nokia symbian devices running joikuspot only share network in adhoc mode.

+1 Juiceme. Thanks for the insight. Raises my hope either for implementation or someone enabling it via patch(?). I fatally bricked my archos tablet recently and its 3gig data sim now switched back to n900 or n8 as secondary device. My marginal problem :P

Patching is not difficult. I did similar thing to a no-name android tablet some time ago.

Building the android connman was much more difficult than building SFOS version :)

iPad works with Joikuspot. I still use it to get round restrictions on some SIMs which work on phones but not tablets. It would be a useful feature on the tablet.

One example usecase would be connecting to a wifi network created by a MacBook, which opens a hotspot in ad-hoc modus by default. I want to control Ableton Live via TouchDAW (Android App). As for now I have to use a friend's iPhone for that.
