There are too few applications in the store. And some of them are Android ones. I think some of us could contribute to develop the Sailfish ecosystem by crowd funding some phones to few developers chosen for their brilliant work (in the N900 / N9 communities for instance).

Moreover some countries can't buy a Jolla...

Some questions:

  • phone for developer himself
  • phones for a community. This community should have a board to decide what to do with the phones
  • ask for something particular? Nothing? Open source app? Free (as beer) app? ...

@TeHeR why only limit to those coming from N900 / N9 communities? I guess a person from KDE community could also do a good job or someone new that already works on something interesting. Please let's not create bubble by closing ourselves always in the same dev circles instead of extending them.

You are right, but it was just to illustrate where to find apps developers. Of course there are many project / communities that could be candidates.

I've just edited my question.

At least it shouldn't be "port this app and you'll get a Jolla phone". Then we'll end up with shitty apps, that won't get maintained.

Rather if hobby (poor) developers only can test their app in the emulator they could come in question for a crowd-funded phone. It should be quite easy to reach €400 if the concept and code is good. And if there was an easy way to donate.

But I think there may be a legal issue with having the funding in Finland?

I like the idea of crowdfunding to buy Jolla's for deserving devs (building something cool and maintaining it).

the crowdfunding could be done elsewhere than Finland as the Jolla shop ship to the EU (so avoiding the Finish crowd funding problem)

@ymb: What is the "Finish crowd funding problem" please?
