It seems that users having space in their screenname can't be referred to on TJC posts, if there's another user with same first name. Also capital letters are causing errors in referrals. In case of capitals, it seems that TJC always picks the oldest registered account to refer to.

Testing with 3 existing nicks andreas (user 7615), Andreas (2515) and Andreas Nilsson (2908) just to represent which user they link to, sorry for extra referral:

  • @Andreas (capital used while writing)
  • @Andreas (no capital used while writing)
  • @Andreas Nilsson (capitals used)
  • @Andreas nilsson (no capitals used)
  • @Andreas-Nilsson (capitals used)
  • @andreas-nilsson (no capitals used)

As a workaround, if you want to receive a notification to inbox when someone mentions your username in comments using "@", please check there are not other users with similar first part and update your screenname if needed (your profile > update profile can be found on the right side of your awatar)

My usernames are (almost) always lower case only. It feels a bit weird when someone calls me "Jollailija". I don't know why.

Users with spaces can be referred to, but it seems that the conflict with the nick andreas is causing problems.

not to mention that your nick is also a dupe, there is Simo and simo.

thanks for notifying. It seems that if there's a nick with capital and w/o, askbot picks the older registration to refer to, so in my case referring with small letters works, while on andreas case it goes to Andreas... Now testing to refer to: capital @simo let's see if it's still me... edit: yep

Shouldn't we rather fix Together/Askbot to handle spaces and capital letters in names correctly, rather than force arbitrary limitations on users ?

@MartinK yes, that's why I mention it as a workaround. Better topic might be in place...
