Still buy Jolla Phone MK1?
I'm thinking about buying a Jolla Phone, but I'm not sure if I still makes sense to buy a Mk1, since I read somewhere that they are willing to produce a Mk2 by next year?
We have moved to a new Sailfish OS Forum. Please start new discussions there.

We don't know anything about a Jolla 2. The company splitted into two parts and one is hardware-oriented so we can expect a new device but it cannot imagine it soon to be delivered (usually count 6 months when Jolla announces a new hardware).
To conclude, if you really want the true Sailfish OS experience, buy a Jolla 1 since it is a great phone (even though not hardwarewise) with a great community. If the hardware is a problem for you, wait but if ever there is a new model, nothing says it will be with a high-end hardware.
And of cource, you can always run Sailfish ports on some android devices

For me hardware dosn't matter that much when it works together with the software hand in hand. It's just a question of "future proofness", so that I would rather not buy the "old" one if a newer jolla was in the pipeline.
Holgerson352 ( 2015-08-11 22:53:52 +0200 )editThe next official Sailfish OS phone is coming from Intex in India. There might be 2 devices but they are confirmed to be launched this november which is the latest sailfishos phone to be in market.
If this techcrunch article is right it says
According to Jolla, the price-point for the forthcoming handset will be less than Rs 10,000 ($150).
^ It definitely means lot of sales especially in a budding market like India where people worship ( atleast used to ) Nokia and there is still a chance for a new entry in market. Also not to forget that India has lot of software developers , if all things play well with localisation and local content really bringing together Indian developers there definitely is a huge market for Sailfish OS. If all things go well Intex might even sell those phones or atleast ship them to EU.
The Intex phone is official but nothing is currently known apart from the fact that it will come out.

pavi ( 2015-08-13 01:56:16 +0200 )edit@pavi That phone is a Jolla phone hidden in an enclosure.

Welcome to the community! First of all, did you use the search before posting? There are several questions on this topic. Also, please tag your questions.
My answer is that Jolla 'mk1' is still worth buying. I bought mine two months ago and I have zero regrets. As they say at Jolla, The world doesn't need yet another smartphone, it needs a new way of thinking. Thanks to "open Jolla" I am an amateur app developer now. Two months back I never would have quessed.
jollailija ( 2015-08-10 17:18:01 +0200 )editWell that's a slogan, right? At the same time you find news on Jolla 2 on the web. So I think my question is justified. I also wonder why it should be a problem to offer spare batteries if they really want to stick to the Mk1 Jolla. Not very convincing, if you ask me. But that's another topic.
Holgerson352 ( 2015-08-11 00:02:06 +0200 )editI'd recommend you to wait for next phone. 1GB RAM is not sufficient for Sailfish OS if you want to use web browser or Android apps. It makes Jolla Phone almost unusable. I'll buy next device when it will be available.
equeim ( 2015-08-11 00:23:08 +0200 )editThe jolla mk1 is a great phone but i will still recommend you to wait for a new model.
The 1 And Only ( 2015-08-11 00:25:58 +0200 )editDo not buy it, wait for next model. Basic functionality is missing; podcast support, bluetooth transfer and the filesystem is terrible. Current model is a low spec Android phone with awesome UI
