Seems, that it is not alphabetic order.

Is it possible to influence to that order? If not, then this could be turned into a feature request.

In my case it IS definitely an alphabetic order for the favourites in People.

Seems also to be alphabetical here with a mixture of GTalk Facebook and addressbook friends. Is it possible your contacts are being sorted on a secondary field or have differing names on differing services?

The order is alphabetic, using the first name, then the last name (unless the 'Sort by last name' option is selected in the settings page, in which case the order is reversed). Contacts without first or last names will be ordered before other contacts, and by their display label amongst themselves.

We have an internal request to make the favorites orderable by dragging around manually, but I can't find that anyone has requested publicly this feature.

Hmm. I have set my family members as favorites (+ my brother & father). I have put only their first names in their information. In the settings I have both "Show last name first" and "Sort by last name" on.

The order of them is following: "Akseli", "Pekka", "Tauno", "Eero", "Elina", "Liisa" !? So we might have a small bug here?

@Upp15: yes, I can't explain that. In the next update there will be a CLI tool to show some of the properties of contacts, that will help diagnose this problem.

@Upp15: The names that begin with 'E' - are they actually variants of 'E', with diacritic marks (acute, grave, etc.)? If so, they might sort after plain 'A', 'P' & 'T'. I can't imagine how the 'L' sorts at the end, however...

@MattVogt: No, they are not variants. But I finally figured out, what is the reason for that "disorder": for "Eero", "Elina" and "Liisa" I had put their first names in the field "Last name", while the others had their first names in the correct field. :D

So no bug here after all ...

I have imported contacts from my previous phone. Apparently I had lots of contacts with only partial name, and now it is a total mess to find anything, as this list is not sorted - Accountant appears after Anna. I can't think of why it can be useful to sort separately contacts without fisrt/lastnames, last name only etc. All names should be sorted alphabetically in the order their appear in the address book.
