Hi,

I am keen to know more about the Jolla-Intex partnership, Apart from the launch of new phones will Intex provide support of exciting Jolla phone users? Will they produce and sell the Other half in India?

Thanks,

It would be nice if one/some of their devices would be for sale outside India with stock Sailfish (i.e. no local content/app customization), perhaps as a replacement for, or complement to, their current device.

Is it possible Intex has their own software solutions to provide/patch the basic features that are missing/buggy in Jolla SailfishOS? I'm kind of interested if that is the case and if I could localize the phone to Europe.

I would sincerely doubt that Intex would dabble in the Other Half concept. The big advantage of Sailfish for a company like theirs is that you can fairly easily install the OS on existing mobile hardware, and Intex has a whole lot of existing mobile hardware to work with. It should take much less time and money to just create Sailfish-based versions of their existing phones than try and create new devices from whole cloth...

It could be argued that a few of the otherhalves might be interesting for Intex buyers too. The change in hardware would be minimal, really.

@vattuvarg Oh, absolutely! I personally think the OH concept is extremely attractive for many different kinds of consumer. I just don't see a company like Intex getting behind that concept, at least not in the short term; the phone hardware they've chosen appears fairly conservative to my eyes...

@vattuvarg Minimal? You need to provide an additional 5 V input an an I2C bus, plus NFC for OH tag reading. It's very unlikely that you have them available on a stock device.

@vattuvarg: Yeah, it would certainly be something they could use to differentiate their devices. :)

Personally I am curious about the Intex device(s) whether OH-compliant or not. ...especially if it is smaller than the current Jolla phone. A dualSIM phone would be interesting too.

I had high hopes to buy my daughter a Jolla phone for her birthday. That didn't happen. Maybe as her next phone, who knows?
