Hello Sailers !

I've got an idea, would it be possible to have an app in which you register some emergency phone numbers, and when they call you, even if the phone is in silent mode, the ringtone active itself and the speaker volume is increased up to 200%. It would even be a cool factory feature to have.

I think it should be easy to developp, the Phonehook app is able to block a list of phone number. The tricky part may be to desactivate the silent mode and reactivate it after the call or to bypass the silent mode to avoid desactivating it.

Nice idea even if I expected a different kind of app from reading your headline:

"Emergency call" could also be an app which CALLS registered number(s) (plus sends sms-info additionally) when you tap on it and activates speaker and max volume....

I agree with the previous comment, please rename this to reduce confusion. Suggestions:

  • Option to disable silent mode for specific numbers
  • Prioritized contacts

Ideas for name: dialer: Emergency Call receiver:Emergency Dispatcher

But I believe this should be included in the dialer app, as this "small" things could give a push for Sailfish OS!

Well speaker volume 100% is the max, so 200% would be no-go. But yes, it would be pretty simple to do openrepo application that monitors incoming calls and would override silent mode by using QAudioOutput to play custom sound at 100% level.

Phonehook is opensource app, so your able to make pull request there yourself or someone who is willing to implement the feature.

nope, actually the 100% volume is not the max, you can use a command in the shell to increase up to 200%. I know, at 200% of the volume the speaker got a lot's of parasites and distorsion, but we can let the user choose the volume for an emergency call. thanks for the info on phonehook about its opensourceness ;)

I also talk with the dev of personal ringtone app on the Jolla Fan club page on facebook, he said it was doable in his app.

@Hecraps: well ok, but I don't recommend going over 100% as you might break your speakers eventually.

Sounds good but this function would only work when the app is running which is a huge limitation. I give it my vote thought.

@Hecraps actually there is already a request to add that kind of behavior to phonehook. Developer said that he will look into it.

On Symbian we had a feature called 'groups' for contacts. You put in some contacts you want to group up in the contacts app. Then in the profiles (ambiances for Jolla) you could select for which groups to ring during the active profile. That way I could make sure say at night time, only my family could reach me. I wish this made it back to SailfishOS one day. With the extended possibility to assign ringtones to these groups as well ;-)

There is a thread about this feature: https://together.jolla.com/question/2837/groups-for-contacts/
