1.1.9 Bug or Feature? Access to the first 4 apps by single tap

I just discovered that I can do a single tap on an empty home screen to produce the first 4 apps from the apps menu. As soon as at least one app is running, tapping on empty space no longer has this behaviour.

That seems rather inconsistent to me. Is it a bug to be still there or a feature not fully implemented or is it supposed to be that way?

I don't understand this, either. Inconsistent.

As suggested in https://together.jolla.com/question/107917/is-there-a-way-to-pin-apps-to-the-bottom-of-the-home-screen-sfos-20/, this is probably a visual cue that the app drawer is located below.

i think its rather handy, perhaps two-finger tap or something could produce the first 4 apps.

If it is supposed to be a cue, there should come up an swipe-indicator as shown in the turorials.

I'd love to have access to this "quick launch bar" even if apps open.

Yes, having access to the your selected 4 applications in the home screen is/was great. Tap to produce the bar for a short period is also good(if not event better), but in 1.1.9.28 it works only on empty home screen. I have no idea it this intentional of bug to be fixed?

No bug, but a feature. It's a hint to find the app launcher when no apps are running (especially helpful for people who try out Sailfish OS for the first time). It was already presented and explained this way at MWC '15, where Sailfish OS 2.0 was shown for the first time in public.

There is a well upvoted request to improve the situation with the 1st row of app launchers and/or make it available when other apps are already running. Please vote and contribute there, if you would like to make more use of the first 4 apps in launcher:

Can you direct me to where it says it's a feature to hint the app drawer?

I can see the small bar at the bottom as a hint, but tapping and getting four icons does not hint that there is more below them to me.

It was explained to me like this on the tablet prototype by Jolla graphic designer Zhidi Shang. But I think it was also shown in some of the many videos taken of Sailfish OS 2.0 UI at MWC. Unfortunately I have no link to a video or text where this is mentioned.

The white indicator-arrow on lock screen (after doubletap) belongs to the same category of hints. The idea is, that someone with zero Sailfish experience can find his/her way around the system without having to look for and try out to many things. While I appreciate this decision, I can also see how it looks inconsistent to experienced users.

Ok, but still showing four icons does not hint the same way an arrow does imo.

And it's my opinion that designing only for new users alienates power users and have the risk of making everyday tasks unnecessary complex and/or unintuitive (ironically enough).

Inconsistent and hard to believe explanation. Who at Jolla makes such things up?

On condition to have an empty home screen I can tap it and then launch my phone application from bottom left.

The next time, when having some apps open I have to swipe up, and launch it from top left. Inconsistent and clumsy.

@vandersmash Totally agree. It is clearly a bug, that tapping homescreen does not show first 4 app shortcuts, if there are already an application running. I read somewhere, that this would be reported to Jolla, and that this is already on some to-fix -list. I just can't find it clearly stated here in TJC ??
