pkcon failed to obtain authentication

I am running Sailfish 1.1.9.28, and I want to install python on my Jolla phone. I have never tried to run pkcon before, so I cannot tell if it's due to the new version or another problem.

Anyway, if I run

pkcon install python

and entering "y" to proceed, I'm getting an error:

Fatal error: Failed to obtain authentication

The same happens with pkcon update etc.

What am I doing wrong?

That seems good. Have you by any case changed the "Allow developer updates" option in Settings -> System -> Developer mode?

Also try resetting the version number in ssu:

 ssu re 1.1.9.28
 ssu ur

That's maybe the point....I cannot activate it! Which username/password is needed here? I am typing mine in, got redirect to the settings menu, but the little icon is not glowing...

No, you shouldn't touch that option! That is reserved to Jolla employees.

Oh well...

In my case, the solution was to just run pkcon as root (devel-su).

For completeness, I tested what happens if I touch "Allow developer updates" option in Settings -> System -> Developer mode, and tried to use my authentication data.

After that, I didn't notice any problems so I could not test if the steps, coderus described are needed to fix any problems.
