When I let the phone idle (black screen), sometimes it takes a long time to reconnect to network, and the whole phone get very slow. The last issue I had was a sort of freeze while using the timer, on timer notification, I could not stop the timer because the phone was unresponsive.

I have the feeling that this is due to trying to acquire network though. This happens when both 3G and Wifi are on I think.

Not sure I understand the "reconnect"-part correctly... surely the phone must be connected at all times, regardless whether it is asleep or not? (But I do think there's a problem there because often when I wake up the phone after going from Wifi to mobile areas it shows the reconnect process...)

I have a somewhat similar problem: when the phone goes idle / screen turns off, it effects the reception of wifi signal. Consequently connection drops and depending on the app using internet it may or may not reconnect. For example my internet radio apps often stop working because by the time their buffer runs out, the phone lost connection for too long. Interestingly, if I quickly turn on the screen only a short while after it was idle, connection builds up and radio streaming resumes.
