Even though I had to get used to the now old style of the buttons, it had some consistency with the pulley menus and the prev/next page indicators. The new style buttons are, well .. uninspiring? bland? out of place? In many apps the buttons now look quite horrible actually, unaligned, too big, lack of margins etc. Additionally, this new style button is now similar to what some apps used as a highlight style or tag.

I want the old styling of buttons back. The current style is a mistake might need some polishing.

edit: I think I was a bit too strong in my opinion about the new button style. I quite liked the old design and was initially disappointed with the new style because IMO it lost the visual coherence with checkboxes, progress bars and pagestack indicators (the 'glowing carbon fiber filter'). I do understand however that it's not a design that's usable in all situations.

I still think the height of the new style buttons is a bit too much, and I think a small adjustment there could help, along with, maybe, a combination of the old style with the new, giving the button an underline and bit more 'depth'.

that's great, but I'm trying to convince Jolla that they should reconsider.

I'm not planning to carry patches around, with all the hoop jumping that it brings when updating..

I agree with this view. New style buttons approaching SfOS to the others (less unlike). :(

@accumulator as tuomakin told, he likes it, and a lots of people maybe likes it too.
you don't likes it, and it should be respect too. maybe you could with time like it.
And there for sure a lot's of people who like the old design one (me too).
that's why i found the remark from tuaomakin to make a parameter for toggle this design aspect quite good...
maybe you could add it on your thread if it make sense to you... what do you think about it?

I really prefer the new button style. I think the old ones looked really out of place and not like buttons at all.

But, as with many things, for those who prefer the old style, an option to turn the old look back would be nice. :)

The new style also finally looks like a button, which has the benefit that you can now place it on dynamic content, such as a map widgets, pictures, etc.

The previous style looked good on the generic Silica themed background but looked very out of place on any dynamically changing background ("What is that underlined and hardly visible label doing there ?").

Yep. The old style was awful ugly, there even existed a theme with a nicer pulley and button-style which is now no more necessiary.

Yes, adding an option would be perfect.

Button is made for clicking. Underlined text may be a link made for clicking. I like both styles, but I slightly prefer the new style - but please check left and right margins. Just a little polishing and it's great :)

PS Votes right now are 22-21, so this really seems like a draw now!

The new button style is... fine for me. It has a simple and modern look, and buttons actually looks like buttons now (no longer like some bold font with a too-thick and misaligned underline).

The actual problem is the old button style. Because of its unlikeness (how many UIs use borderless buttons?), no developer felt the need to apply a margin, as the padding provided enough distance to other elements on the page.

It might take some time, but I am sure most apps will adapt to the new button design soon.

Yes, this exactly. Buttons not looking good in applications that haven't been updated isn't really a fault of the new style.

is just a feeling appreciation like moods and colors. we understand that you don't like, and for others that's good could you understand and live with it?

this one is bigger and take much more place. the old one is a special style, but more futuristic. i like it. but i understand that you do not like it.

So i want to bring a compromise with balance between to world here.
I remark that a lot's of people love the new button design.
And some other love the old one. (i am one of them)
And some of each part don't care about the other.
Should be just one design at last?
maybe both could be served.
That is just a design question, and with design will never satisfy a range bigger than the other one.

why not have a setting parameter which make possible to choose his beloved design?

Should not be to complicated for code and design material. or i tell a mistake?

other suggestion is to give a place on ambience customisation:

maybe one day with fully open UI code we could have different 'themes' or indeed completely different UIs to meet different peoples needs and desires.

For now I think it is better for there to only be one, consistent, design language which makes it easier for third-party developers to go along with rather than have to worry about many different combinations and permutations of UI setting.

I do like the theme-able option, not just ambiances. The suggestion warrants a thread of its own* imo. :)

*) maybe there's already such suggestion, but I couldn't find one with a quick search.

Mohjive ( 2015-09-14 13:11:36 +0300 )edit

@r0kk3rz if the wish is to have it one day. then it should be planed now, to give the possibility to do so later. otherwise will impossible to implement it

cemoi71 ( 2015-09-14 14:56:12 +0300 )edit

you're right for this in the user aspect. but for developer side, the multiple choice should be already taken in consideration, so that it is later possible to use it. do you know what i mean?

cemoi71 ( 2015-09-14 14:58:17 +0300 )edit

@Mohjive you gave a good point. really didn't found it. i didn't make the search. so if i find time i would make a first step thread. but have no problem if you do it. just give me the info if you do it :-)
