where is the jolla tablet? [not relevant]

So we dont get it until december?

May-june-july-august-september-october-november-december...

The question must be asked since its no longer early september. Any issues with the production line or what? Webshop cant handle tablet?

Can you confirm if the first wave gets it before christmas?

I feel bad for the tablet. Hope to see it in customers hands ASAP.

edit 06-11-2015 one month after the big apolopy of the ceo and the latest blogpost... According to the schedule communicated at that time we should be in the middle of the second wave, yet nothing seems to be happening.

@sailors please communicate with us about the process!

Er, no, the opposite is true. The software is ready, and has been for quite some time now. There are demo tablets running around all over the place, and several reviews have already been written using those tablets.

However, a number of problems have continued to hamper the hardware side, from the display issues early this year to the more recent factory scheduling and logistics issues. Once they can start successfully producing the tablets in volume, shipping will commence.

I know about the hardware issues though I think they are pretty much now ouf of the way. I still have doubts about the software.

Will split screen make it into 2.0, because it was announced to release around this time? Will the little quirks with the new eventsview and android support we experience on the phone also happen on the tablet? What about software? We are still not allowed to upload x86 versions of our apps to harbour because the SDK isn't ready yet. So the store will be almost completely empty on arrival of the tablet? I also don't see tablet versions on openrepos. So basically if I would review the tablet based on the native apps which are pretty much non existent I cannot be amazed and as reviewer I can only criticize that. OK there is Android Support but if it isn't top notch and you have bugs like notifications not producing sounds or not shown at all nobody would be amazed by that aswell.

In the end the question remains will the tablet and especially the OS amaze the reviewers and users? Or will it be another 'meh' review? Or will it be a 'has potential but needs improvement' review? Last time I remembered this was exactly that what most Jolla Phone reviewers said. There comes the time that one day Jolla and SailfishOS needs more than such reviews. So that new users and developers will be interested in SailfishOS and start using it. Remember this Tablet is a flagship device for the SailfishOS Platform so it needs that kind of quality that attracts people to it.

Well, then, I suppose you _don't_ want them to release the tablet just yet, if you want to wait until the software is polished and "amazing". :)

A few items:

  • Work on split screen was scheduled to _start_ in August, as you can see in Q3 of the development roadmap. I doubt it will be complete very soon, given the amount of work Jolla has to pursue in other areas right now...
  • Yes, one would expect most quirks on the phone to appear on the tablet, as both are in fact running Sailfish 2.0.
  • It makes little sense to push out the tablet SDK if they still can't produce tablets. I would imagine that the SDK will appear at about the same time shipping starts. (And, that the team working on the SDK is taking advantage of the additional time to continue to tweak the SDK itself.)
  • Sure, the store will be almost empty on arrival of the tablet. Not such a huge deal, as until at least November the only folks who will have tablets are those who participated in the Indiegogo campaign, and that just isn't an enormous number of folks. I would imagine that we can get by with the billions of Android apps available until native apps appear...
  • "Will the OS amaze the reviewers and users?" From the reviews I've seen, the reviewers barely even notice that the OS is not Android. I'd love to see an in-depth review from someone who actually understands what he's talking about, but then, anybody who knows anything about the mobile industry as a whole has already experienced Sailfish _years_ ago and made up their mind. :)

tl;dr: Sailfish is fine as it is. And it will improve over time! There should be nothing software-related to delay the tablet at this point.

I just can't say what exasperates me most: delays, "tomorrows", or total Jolla silence when next promised "tomorrow", "soon", "early September" (you can name more) is missed. If there is some problem, why not to say you have it before we get nervous? Do Jolla really think it's better to try to keep silence as long as possible until the next wave of dissatisfaction rises and then throw us some more promises? Is that the way "people powered" things should be done?

What I can say now, when (hopefully not "if") my tablet arrives, I would not be as much happy, as I would be in May. Even if the screen was not so perfect.

Things does not look so bright now, as they used to be 10 month back… If I had any idea of how long we would have to wait and how small communication we would get from Jolla, I would never order the tablet. Because I didn't need it so much, but just wanted to support the company I liked.

I'm sorry for been non-constructive and pessimistic, but I am absolutely sure, this lack of communication is not because of Jolla is a small company and they don't have enough human resources to post regulary some update. It's just an attitude to all of us here — not from all of Jolla sailors but from some (may be) big boss(-es) in response for PR. He/she/they just don't think there's something to share with us. Looks really sad and disappointing.

I have to agree. I don't understand why it is so hard to say that there is a problem and they need to fix it or something else. If they have a PR department they are doing a really bad job.

After seeing the previous of Sailfish 2.0 I really don't care too much anymore. Curiosity satisfied, comments given. Waiting for fixes rather than tablet. However when they said 2nd Sept: "Many of you have asked about the shipping schedule. Our operations folks will update this in more detail in another blog post this week, but what I can say now is that the first group of contributors from our Indiegogo campaign will receive invitations to the Jolla shop to place their actual orders within a few days to start the delivery process."

I would expect a follow up?

Jolla <--> rest of the world basic vocabulary
Soon  = about one year timeframe
Day = at least a week
Few days = few weeks, lets say two months at the minimum

What's the rush? I'm also waiting for mine. As this was a crowdfunding project, you must remember that the one thing in common with most of them is that the timetable will not hold. This tablet campaign is not even close to the worst of them, actually we are just slightly delayed.

And they said that after sending out the developer preview tablets, it would take 3-5 weeks to start shipping the tablet to IGG backers. That was end of July, so around 6 weeks ago.

There was a sh!tstorm about poor communication on blog.jolla.com and here, which lead to a number of updates throughout July and August. But please Jolla, keep your backers informed. Like I said back then: most people will accept delays, but they don't like being kept in the dark or being brushed off.

I can assure you that we’re doing everything we can to have the first tablets shipped asap, and also to communicate about it. We are not hiding or keeping information to ourselves, that you can be sure about! As soon as we have confirmation of factual dates, we will let all of you know. Should not take long.

Thanks for trying to keep up. However, – and excuse me for thinking I might have a good suggestion – but wouldn't it be a good idea to anticipate questions and write a diary to keep us informed, instead of answering „so many of them?” I'm sorry but your communication policy is a tad frustrating and is spoils a wait which has been way too long…

personally I am getting tired of getting an email telling me it going to ship in x number of weeks and when x number of weeks pass we don't get an explanation. if there is a problem fine, but you owe and I do mean owe us an explanation.
I was expecting by now to at least have another email explaining what's going on. if its going to be xmas fine, just tell us. We are the people that believed in you and gave you our money for something that didn't exist yet because we thought you were going to build an awesome piece of hardware. So when a ship date slips, its disrespectful to not spend 5 minutes crafting an email explaining why. I understand corporations are secretive by nature and if you feel you cant say exactly why that's also fine, just say something! I would rather get an email stating "our CEO has taken the strange smell of his farts as a sign that the tablet should be delayed 2 months" than nothing at all.

Looking forward to the next lie.

For people to remember the previous one: "there was a typo in the address of the shipment and the automated processes associated with the handling of the shipments did not recognize it properly. Because of this the shipment was returned to the origin, and we had to wait for a new shipment. Can you believe it?!" In Jolla they want us to believe that the delivery guy of a shipment full of screens lost his direction, like a delivery guy misses your house when you order burritos. :( :(

Sorry mosen, I cannot believe that there is a typo which delayed the shipping. They didn't order from eBay, they placed a major order for screens from one factory to another. There are confirmations on these, calls for specific details etc., which would revalidate the shipping.

Yes, the marketing of companies usually lies to customers and I don't think it's different here. So what? That's how the game goes and as customers we have to handle it. If you can't handle it, buy from another company, that's how I do it. Of course I am curious about the tablet, too. I want to have it, if it is as I am expecting, but as I mentioned before, I want to have it when it is ready. If I need a tablet sooner, I have to buy it somewhere else. It's that simple.

The difference to other companies is that this #peoplepowered product is built of trust. Of course no company has to post reasonable updates about their product development. But if a company and its business model is carried along by believers, it is well advised to do so. Jolla already started losing fervent supporters, including long-time Jolla phone lovers and app developers. I have seen community mood switching in other crowdfunding projects, and I believe this one is on the edge. IMO Jolla should react quickly and publish an honest and trust-worthy blog post.

I disagree. More precisely, I agree that it would rather wait than have an unfinished product.

But ... "That's how the game goes and as customers we have to handle it." Why do you sure that we want to play that game? We are not an common customers in some e-shop, we are backers who put money in the trust and the rules of the campaign.

"If you can't handle it, buy from another company, that's how I do it." But we already bought it! They have our money, we can not change it an go buy elsewhere.

If something went wrong, let's admit and do not promise nebulous terms like for a couple of days and so on.

You supported Jolls tablet via crowdsourcing. It's different to buying it. When you gave money you knew it was not ready and definitively not like buying something at Amazon. Part of a kickstarter campaign is to support a new product. This means it is not finished at this point. One can never be sure how long it takes to finish a product, especially in technology.You cannot expect a precise date for sale under this circumstances. Supporting a kickstarter campaign is not just buying something, as you mentioned you are a backer and with this you are playing this game, you agreed to it.

I absolutely agree with you about admitting problems. I think that's the real point here and I am sure Jolla learned a lesson.

It just occurs to me that I still don't know why I need a tablet. So why am I so impatient?

EDIT: Maybe I should add: I am as impatient, as everybody else here around. What makes me curious is to learn how good Sailfish OS will work on a tablet. And although I have no tablet yet, I might learn to appreciate another semi-small device - even if it is not one-hand operable (which is my Primary reason interest for SfOS).

I must say that I did not need a tablet like the ones available until now. Now, I realize that when I need to access the Web or do similar things when comfortably sitting on the couch, my Jolla is too small, a laptop PC is too heavy, and my Galaxy Tab is too bad an experience. So, I am really looking forward to getting the JT in my hands.

@ApB: WTF are you talking about? Why should the customers shut up only because they have already complained at some point in the past? Like, a month ago it was OK to be mad of Jolla for keeping us in the dark, but now we suddenly should wait resignedly for them to bestow a new blog post upon us? If there is something I learned over the course of last months it is that every bit of information has to be pulled out from Jolla with pliers
