[bug] Android notifications overlap features

While I'm sharing my location using the Glympse app I get a notification that stays on the screen as long as I'm sharing.
This sucks big time because the notification overlaps a lot of things like the Phone app and the first row in SMS app so it becomes tricky to find a spot where one doesn't tap the notification when trying to access the phones calling features or when replying to the last SMS.
I Have similar issue in Google Maps.
The android notifications for Google Maps jump in front constantly when driving, with the Maps app of course running and displaying the map. The notifications overlap parts of the screen as it is.
Is it possible to somehow disable the notification for the currently the app that is currently running in the foreground??
edit: Change the topic, remove app name.. "like in Glympse" - to show that this is a general issue with Android notifications overlapping stuff... :)
