the bottom swipe [sugesstion]

I feel the bottom "app drawer" swipe is quite but the more convinient notification swipe is missing and its really proving difficult to get to that.. The sugesstion is that the bottom swipe is to be partitioned in two parts i.e, the left half bottom to be apps and right half bottom swipe to be the notification.

I don't see any reason to do this, since this would increase complexity of the UI, and the notification screen is easily accessible from the home screen via a side swipe.

@wanderer: from a usability perspective, do you go to notifications or app launcher most often? Which should be easiest to reach from your view? Splitting the bottom swipe might not be the best solution, but the current way to reach notifications, either from home view or stretching over the screen (if you're right handed) to do a left swipe isn't really good either.

I see your point. You are talking about the direct way from an app to the notification screen, which is either deactivated now, or a discrimination for right-handers. Yes, this is a bit problematic.

I think I use the notifications more often than the app launcher. Right now I don't have the left edge gesture activated. I can live with it, but it is not perfect though.

There is the general problem now, that the new UI includes a hand discrimination in some cases. It would be nice if the phone could recognise automatically whether you are holding it in the left or the right hand and adapt the side edge gestures to it. Unfortunately this is not possible with the existing sensors right now. It could be probably done with a special TOH. An alternative would be an Idea that I posted here: https://together.jolla.com/question/92320/use-gyro-and-acceleration-sensors-for-new-gestures/?answer=92606#post-id-92606.

I just had a new idea how to solve this issue with the notification access: https://together.jolla.com/question/109717/smart-access-to-notifications-from-both-edges/

put the comment on wrong place:

i would split the left and right edge swipes into two rather then the bottom up

You can configure the left swipe to take you directly to the events view.

True, but I want to make a post/suggestion about that alone, but I can't really find a way to not make it opinionated/argumentative. But the left screen border is too far away ergonomically no matter how you hold your phone, if you use it with your right hand (and you don't have large hands). The bottom swipe you can compensate for by holding lower on the phone.

since i am a lefty.. its hard to do quick swipes... so i dont use the button for locking my device... but still its inconvenient to the hand..

if you leave the default settings of 1.1.9.

double left or double right edge will bring you to events

after thinking about it, i start to like your idea, but i would not split the bottom up into two, but the left and right edge swipe. they are easier to access for me
