Seems that when the media app extracts cover images from mp3 files some songs' album art show up in the gallery among photos.

I like this behaviour (that the gallery shows album art images), although perhaps it should be split up into "Photos" (for the Photos folder) and "Other images" or something (for other images indexed on the device).

@FireFly I don't see any purpose of showing them in the gallery; especially when I have a LOT of music on the device.

This is also true for images downloaded from other applications such as Tidings (RSS viewer).

Yep. This must go. Album art belongs to the albums and only there.

After the installation of Shazam and Soundhound I have find my gallery full of album cover... Are there a method to avoid to see these pictures in the gallery, for example like .nomedia in Android?

I've been thinking it would be great to have a 'directory' setting in the app settings menu for the Gallery app and the Media app.

Which would allow you to set 'folders' with a folder title and a directory path. Which would filter the results from Tracker based on that directory path, and thus enable the user to set things up according to their own structure.

In my case I have clear folders for Music and Photos on my SDCard, so with some kind of control it would be trivial to split out my Music folder so I dont have to wade through hundreds of album art pictures to get to my photos.

Same with the media app, instead of it occasionally picking up other sound files on my Jolla downloaded by third party apps, I can set a Music directory and it will only show files from there

I think this would be a great way of having control where media is located on the device.

As a solution for album arts you can embed the covers into the file tag and erase the .jpg in your music folders.

How can i make this for folder with file or multiple folders?

White ( 2017-11-06 18:12:17 +0300 )edit

@silta: that just makes all your music files a lot bigger. Not worth the tradeoff.

@White I do it on Linux with puddletag. For Windows I recommend Mp3tag.

@nthn It's bigger, that's right.

I tagged my mp3 files for portable audio with 400x400px jpg files. Checked a file of 9,7 MiB and saw that the embedded jpg is 16,0 KiB.

That isn't that problem for me.

Apart from that, I agree that it is better if you can specify the music or picture folder for media or gallery app

Well, i'm not using mp3 files at all, i'm listening only flac and DSD audio through external amplifier. My files are very large. Anyway, thank you. But i will send message to support. I think they should do something with it, because it is very odd to use gallery that way.

You can prefix the album art with a period (example: .dalriada.jpg). That will tell the gallery not to index it.

Well, it is somkind of wayout, thanks.

But do you think, is it so difficult to make simple option menu for gallery in OS, that is NOT free now? I think, they must do such simple things, other way they will go to the bottom. Someone from Jolla can answer this simple question?

White ( 2017-11-06 21:02:53 +0300 )edit

It shouldn't be to tough to do. If I was better at scripting, I could probably give you a nice one-liner that would prefix all album art with a period, but sadly, I'm mostly code illiterate.

it requires a file to be added in music folder called .noimage
the situation you describe only happens when your music is NOT in the nemo/home Music folder, for example you have muaic on your SD card, in the nemo music folder it will NOT index images.

My music is in android_storage\Music folder because i'm using PowerAMP player. If .noimage file will help then it is very funny that Jolla CAN'T add index/noindex feature, because the only thing that needed is automatically put "noimage" to folders. Anyway, it is very simple functionality and it SHOULD be integrated.

I will put .noimage file to my music folder and will try to upload few more albums.

On a related note, is there also a .nomusic? I'd love to exclude my audio books, so they don't clutter up the media app.

I'm on sailfishX 2.1.3.7ea on a f5121 an had that cover images in the gallery too. After a hard reset of the tracker everything was correct again (no covers in gallery). Maybe a softreset (tracker reset -e) can help too, but I have not tried it.

Use terminal and type:

tracker reset -r

Use

tracker status

to check the tracker reindexing progress. I have no '.noimage' in my ~/Music folder.

update 20171109: The bug is still present: today I put some albums on my sdcard and got the images in the gallery. The .noimage File does not fix it. I decided to exclude the sdcard from the tracker (I have no pictures or videos on sdcard) and play music albums from the sdcard with flowplayer (you can define the folders there).

use terminal to exclude sdcard from tracker:

gsettings set org.freedesktop.Tracker.Miner.Files index-removable-devices false

Only a quick'n'dirty workaround.
