The app drawer (e.g. application launcher) should be able to slide just partially open to be able to launch app among topmost rows. This would replace nicely the removed four app launch icons bottom of home screen.

It's now behaving like jump to open, I suggest to change the action to slide to open e.g. you can left app draver partially open by lifting your finger, half or some other ratio and then select app icon to be lauched from visible area. Intuitive action to close partially open app drawer is to slide it to close or click somewhere above the draver like the browser behaves when dealing with tabs.

The current "flick to open" swipe gesture of the app drawer can be retaned also by just enabling the fast "throw to open by thumb" slide action e.g. slow slide just lefts app draver partially open when you raise a touch and faster slide action - fast swipe upwards - opens app drawer fully like current implementation.

This idea enables you reach easily and open fast apps from topmost lines of app drawer without need to reach high up (and maybe to change your grip depending of the size of your hand) to be able to click toplines of fully open app drawer.

Agree, a virtual line between favorites and non favorites should be made somehow.

Partial slide would be nice And additionally tap on task list blurred background to bring them favorites up just like we have now on empty home screen only in SFOS 2.0 preview. Favorites can stay open (visible) till you are finished launching them serially by tapping the shortcuts. This would allow to launch a couple of favorites very quickly while only having to bring up the icon list one time. An option to allow background launch of favorites without them stealing focus would also be needed.

nice idea! Current behaviour could be left as it is by flicking up. Your option if the appdrawer is opened slowly or the finger is not released fast.

What's the advantage of this behaviour, apart from slowing down the opening of the app launcher?

No, it's not slowing down at all because I suggest to retain flick to open feature. What this idea enables is very fast access to open topmost apps of the drawer which in the same time are most used ones like phone, SMS, camera, browser, contacts etc without rearranging procedure when upgraded from SFOS 1.x series.

You just push thump up little bit, drawer opens and with same movement you can click the app open. Current behaviour makes access to topmost lines quite slow because you must often change your grip to reach top line of fully open app draver.

It's now quite frustrating to just push app drawer little bit up, the topmost lines appear just under your thumb...but if you raise your thumb the app drawer pops fully open and you must reach high up to be able to open e.g phone app that sits the top line of the app drawer after upgrade from SFOS 1.x.

Ok, I understand. You mean swipe to open launcher and pull to open first row. Indeed the apps currently get smaller when opening the first row and leave space to host it.

An alternative to open it by a gesture, the quick launch could be always present at the bottom of the home screen (as in SfOS 1) below all open apps. Then it would only require a flick to reach the bottom of the app list and have the quick launch bar available.

Also good! I am using this word too often recently: make it optional! Give us choice, don't just take away features to replace by others that are worse or better.

Even Jolla seems to agree: (extract from Sailfish 2.0 release announcement)

"More personalization There are now even more options enabling you to personalize the phone according to your needs. One example is defining the behavior of the top edge swipe gesture: you can choose to keep it as an ambience switcher or change it to close apps directly with one top swipe (like before)."

And the other examples of personalisation are WIP, Jolla? (favorites, cover actions type, all swipe actions configurable etc..)

@vandersmash That is exactly what I have been thinking. The only way Jolla is going to keep most people happy is by giving us choice. We are all different so why should't our phones be?

I know they can't add every gesture or feature anyone can think of as an option but what if they would let us choose from things that have already been there in some previous version. This way they would relieve the pressure from implementing major changes in the future.

IF sailfish is going to get more users it's going to get harder and harder for them to try something UNLIKE in their future versions of sailfish. This way they could avoid the path of IOS and Android.
