Somehow I got micro-scratches on the camera that made it appear foggy as if a layer came off the outter lens protector. Now it takes foggy images. It is kinda disappointing as I've never treated any of my previous phones with "special care" still I have not experienced this with any of them.

I'd like to polish it with a hand-tool. Is it plastic? Does it have any additional layers (e.g. UV protection) that I will destroy in the process?

thanks

Jolla Care told me that they could "fix" it but not under warranty. No word on how long the new fixed lens cover coating is supposed to stay intact or what the coating is needed for (UV / anti-glare?) so I decided to just remove the remaining coating with my finger nail.

Did the same as vandersmash - pics are brilliant again - no issues so far ...

I cannot answer you for certain what material the lens is made of, but how you can 'fix' the problem. I have my 2nd Jolla phone and both phones got very scratched camera lenses which made it impossible to take decent photos. My phones are in good condition and I generally take very care of them + never had scratched camera lenses on previous non-Jolla phones.

On my first Jolla I removed the scratched layer using Displex Display Polish (works very well). The 2nd time I had to scratch it away with my T-shirt, since I was at an exposition, wanted/had to take pictures but realized that they look extremely crappy - then I saw the camera lense was full of scratches again.

On daily use I don't see a difference in picture quality and the lens seems to be made out of glass (I don't have any scratches on it). But I planned to write Jolla Care to find out what caused the same issue two times on two of their phones.

Correct, i just polished the coating off with a micro fiber cloth on two jolla phones, no complaint since then!

Thank you, I should have searched more before posting. A mf cloth and some keen rubbing worked a treat, will see how long it lasts.

That layer is very bad and it scratches extremely easy. I have 2 Jollas and on both it went scartched after 1-2 weeks of normal usage.

The only solution to take clear pictures again is to take it off completely. For this I suggest using a cotton fabric and polish the lens for half an hour or so. The coating will go off at least in the center of the lens allowing you to take clear pictures again. This is what I did for both my devices and it worked fine.

On the net I have seen all sorts of instructions about how to polish it with toothpaste but I never tried it so I don't recomment it.

Cotton cloth worked fine for me as this layer goes off rather easily after some dozen minutes of rubbing with a cloth.

I read here in the forums that using some crystalized-sugar lotion on it with a qTip removes it just fine. Tried it yesterday and worked after 5min.
