Strange thing happened today: I switched to Mitakuuluu and have not had android whatsapp open since yesterday. today I had NO android app open, nothing in the task switcher except the Mitakuuluu cover. suddenly I received a whatsapp window telling me I had to re-register my phone number. I just closed this, but I am confused... I thought android apps stopped running when they are closed? it was definitely a message from the original android whatsapp, at least it had exactly that look. And my Mitakuuluu is working fine.

same happens also right after reboot if there is a message sent to you when phone is offline, even though whatsapp isn't open yet.

Same happens for skype. It too can receive messages when closed. And that means that it sometimes gets the incoming messages instead of my laptop (until they sync up again)... and that is really annoying in the middle of a conversation.

Why not using Mitakuuluu from Coderus ?

Like I said, I AM using Mitakuuluu. That's why I was confused that the android whatsapp that I hadn't had open since yesterday (because I switched to Mitakuuluu) sent me that notice.

Closing android app by swipe down do not close it, just hide. You have to close it by android way(other apps by that menu and last one by clicking back button).

From comment: Of course that not work if program is registered to background app(whatsapp skype etc.)

If Android apps register background tasks, they are expected to run even if the app is not active. This is necessary to get notified about Skype or Whatsapp events. Maybe this was fixed in Alien Dalvik with the recent update because I remember people complaining about not getting notifications.

so in a nutshell all the posts telling people to keep whatsapp open in order to receive notifications are incorrect... good to know. At some point a guide how exactly the android layer works would be helpful, I guess.

Hopefully you get rid of those (unwanted) background tasks by uninstalling the corresponding app !?
