Hallo,

it's just an idea about the voting mechanism at together.jolla.com.

To clearify the discussion at together.jolla.com, i think a member who downvote should give the reason why the downvote is done. Elsewise as at an upvote, a downvote is evidence of an other opinion of the downvoter.

I think it would be nice if a downvote is done, an answer or comment page appears. Then the thoughts why the downvote is done could be immediately written down.

I don't no how often a downvote is done without a comment. But such an action is contra productive because no information is given what is wrong or should be discussed.

Thanks for comments ;-)

Comments

-1 can use comments to voice your opinion. ;) +1 can also be used as comment.

I think up and down votes should be separated. It showns the support / resistanse of the idea better that the single vote calculator. We could for example have a question with 18 votes, doesn't seem that much, but if we have a question that has been voted up 381 times and downvoted 276 times it tells us more. Disclaimer: Numbers are completely random and do not represent anything, except poor imagination.

It tells us how controversial a given topic is. I really would appreciate a change towards showing both up and downvotes - coupling a downvote on a comment is a difficult thing.

I would suggest half a downvote can be done without comment, a full downvote only with a comment. But this system would have other drawbacks. So showing up- AND downvotes is enough for a start.

Also, please remove the penalty for downvoting. While I see that it provides some protection against misuse, it also keeps users from (legitimately) expressing their opinion because they don't want to lower their karma. At least I have to admit that this is the case for me.

"Nothing is what it seems, neither is it anything else"

This question is old and cannot be realistically answered.

We are stuck with Askbot and Jolla have stated a few times, that nothing will be changing here on TJC, not without making major changes to the current mechanism.

Personally, I think this question should be closed as subjective/argumentative while remembering that END USERS do NOT pay the BILLS at Jolla HQ.
