Hello

Until sfos 1.1.x,many of us found the cover right/left pull-action such a powerful function.
And one of identification of sfos.

Now i understand why that is not possible on sfos 2 any more.

But if the horizontal carousel is adopted.
Why not to bring back this old pull-cover action but with up/down moves?

Two buttons, to actions up or down.

Update 24.09.2015:
As told for chemist, That's right the pull-up action for the launcher block this possibility.
why not set the launcher move with a swype-up (means thumb must begin outside the below edge)?
And the a further caraousel panel if the amount of app bigger than 9. Then all the main move will be horizontally.

ps: remember pull action is a swish inside the display, swype action is from outside to inside.

Up and down movement is used to scroll the App Covers in the Home screen. So you would need a press and pull action, which conflicts partially with the press action when closing or rearranging the Covers.

@raketti sorry but i do not have this action. so my first reaction is to think your comment as irrelevant.
in which version of sfos this action that you describe is supported? i have the last release for all "1.1.9.28".

"Now i understand why that is not possible on sfos 2 any more." I don't.. Because Marc Dillon has left?

Just let people choose wither they like horizontal, vertical, middle screen, edge swipe for this or that function.

Gestures menu should offer enough space to allow configurable options between tap cover actions and swipe cover actions. All the config utility should do extra is detect totally incomparable combo's and prevent those and inform the user.

I would like to suggest my two-tap idea: https://together.jolla.com/question/84391/hyc-dont-replace-cover-action-pulls-with-buttons/?answer=107317#post-id-107317

Selectable alternative behavior:

  • reopen an app: double tap
  • de-/activate an app: single tap (maybe shown via a coloured cover frame off/on, where 'on' holds for 3 or 5 sec.)
  • use cover actions: swipe cover AFTER app activation

So you can simply use the cover actions. It doesnt interfere with horizontal scrolling and it's intuitive cuz widely known from desktop GUIs.

@cemoi71 what action are you talking about?

These are the functions I'm talking about and both are in the latest release:

  • When you have more than nine Covers on the Home screen, it becomes scrollable
  • Long press on the Cover will invoke the closing or rearranging of the Covers/Apps

Not possible without removing 9+ cover feature and pull up for launcher. If you would do that I'd rather see just the cover-action gesture return as written here https://together.jolla.com/question/84391/hyc-dont-replace-cover-action-pulls-with-buttons/ as that would only mean to make pulls not move the main carousel.

@chemist ah! that is a good point. not for the 9+ cover
but for the launcher one.
why not set the launcher move with a pull up (means thumb must begin outside the below edge)?

cemoi71 ( 2015-09-24 15:45:02 +0300 )edit

Still, 9+ covers. So no, the old behaviour was just fine, and I hope we get a pulley on home as well... so that makes then break with pulley, launcher and 9+ covers!

chemist ( 2015-09-24 15:48:00 +0300 )edit

don't understand your point of view with 9+
how could it disturb you if you have more than 9 app opened?

cemoi71 ( 2015-09-24 15:51:32 +0300 )edit

at last the cover should not be smaller tahn your fingerprint size. right? how many apps should be opened to get this18? 24?

cemoi71 ( 2015-09-24 15:53:38 +0300 )edit

the grid size is limited to 3 horizontally... so 4 has 2x2 and any thing >4 has 3x# up unitl 9 that is 3x3 grid, 9+ is 3x4 and the covers become scrollable, 12+ is 3x5 and so on.
