Camera app: setting for turning off shutter sound

The camera app should have a setting (e.g. in the settings menu, not directly in the app) to disable the shutter sound. This sound is really annoying to some people, and can even have negative effect on the pictures taken, as it draws attention to the camera (e.g. when taking pictures of small children or pets)

You can turn if off by disabling system sound in settings. Unfortunatelly you can not mute the shutter on its own.

yes, that is the point. I still want to hear the battery-warning e.g., especially with the NFC-bug still not fixed yet. ;)

Isn't it something mandated by these stupid EU regulations?

There was a rumor once like this. But as I can turn it off in Android, I suspect it is not a real "law". But IAmNotALawyer.

Most of the time the sound is pointless and annoying. It can be disabled, it's only needlessly complicated to do so. There should just be a simpler way to disable the shutter sound. Maybe put it in the ambience settings so it can be changed - if you want to hear "Say cheese!" instead of the click-whirr, let it be so.

Here is the possible workaround: either replace the /usr/share/sounds/jolla-ambient/stereo/camera_shutter.wav file with something different (an empty .wav file) or edit /usr/share/ngfd/events.d/camera_shutter.ini, replacing the canberra.filename = camera_shutter line with something like canberra.filename = null.

Then restart the ngfd process: killall ngfd will do, the systemctl --user restart ngfd.service as the nemo user is probably the most clean way, or reboot the system.
