haven't found a question about this:
I would like to see contacts profile pictures on incoming calls.
am sure there have been thoughts to this already - is there any solutions in process?

the feature is already there my friend, if I understand you correctly. Open the People app, select a contact from the ABCD list. In the next window, you'll see a box near the top left corner with a + in it, tap that and your gallery opens, select an image, crop it if needed, apply it, job done.
When that contact calls you, you won't see a perfectly clear image, as Sailfish applies a mask over the image so you can read the call details - however, using Patchmanager (https://openrepos.net/content/sfietkonstantin/patchmanager) from Openrepos, you can apply a patch from Coderus that allows the caller image in it's full glory.
