One major UI change in SFOS 2.0 is the removing of the app-row in the homescreen. In this row Jolla had put phone, messages, browser and camera. Apparently these apps are assumed to be among of the most used apps, since they could always be reached with the least effort.

Now in SFOS 2.0 "The first row of app launcher icons is no longer visible in the homescreen. The app launcher is now accessible from anywhere in the UI with a swipe up gesture from the bottom edge." True that, but phone, messages, browser and camera are still in the first row, which is now the top most row, which ist least accessible with your thumb. The very phone icon is now on the top left corner: the spot which is hardest to be reached if you are a righty. I have not the smallest of hands, but I have to change the grip on the phone just to tap the phone button on my phone now.

Am I missing something here? Is there another way? Did the engineers test this only on the tablet, where you will need either both hands or a stable base anyway?

PS: Sure, I can put the top-most apps on the sixth row and group my apps on every page in descending importance starting from the lower right. This is working, but is it not something which would meet my perceptions of consistent UI design.

Apparently I was missing something: As long as no app is running, but only in this case, a pull/flick down on the home screen will pull up the first row. Kind of an easter-egg..

Yes very stupid! But looking at how settings favourites are arranged, the designer of these things seems to not use the phone... at least not with one hand.
