Some of us are going to be there... so let me open a thread for a "maemeegollazen meeting"

Of course since the GNU/Linux mobile as a long story behind this will be open to any geeks who care of open linux mobile platform ( jolla, maemo, meego, tizen, qt ) and others ones I am too lazy to mention (OpenMoko, FirefoxOs, UbuntuTouch, WebOS, bb10 etc) ...

I will update this thread later before the d-day...

Do you have some ideas in mind ?

Some links now :

Regards and see you there...

I just want to add that it looks like it might be possible that this year too, will have a lot of snow... we haven't had any temps below 0 yet, this winter, but from thursday to at least monday, max temp will be below -2°C (but probably a lot colder), and storm with some kind of snow should be hitting us the night of friday on saturday... just an FYI...

Sailfish community dinner on Saturday

  • time: 19:30 (to give a 1-2h window for people to get back to their hotel, change, etc)
  • location: À la Mort Subite, rue Montagne-aux-Herbes Potagères 7 (very close to most down town hotels)
  • Reservation is confirmed for 20 people, we'll be on the first floor.

Saturday is the day for community dinners at FOSDEM. This might be inconvenient for people, who would like to attend a different dinner too, but such is life, you make choices. Friday it's beer event and Sunday, mostly everybody is leaving already.

This will provide a natural follow-up to the community round-table happening late afternoon and will allow for follow-up discussion in smaller groups. (see/up-vote my other answer too, please)

Original content:

Arriving Friday 13:40 on SAS1591 (via CPH), leaving Sunday evening 19:40 on SAS-2592 . Will attend beer event on Friday, maybe we could again have a Sailfish community dinner on Saturday?

"Same procedure as every year, James!"

yes I see this sat night as the best option ... but It would be nice to extend to other communities and eventually split groups if we're too many ...

i already have a sat dinner with Mageia, but we could still meet up somewhere

Do you need confirmation of attendance or something? Who is going to "volunteer" to arrange this? (if required, I don't know the place)

javispedro ( 2014-01-24 23:22:56 +0300 )edit

I`ll be there.

Sailfish community round-table

BoF-room is reserved for 16:30! H-building, take the staircase next to the legal issues room (H.2213) and WCs. Exit the staircase to the right. H 3227 or H3228 will be the room.
G+ event: https://plus.google.com/events/c71akcsgf8ga7gqbdlnad82rs5g

I propose to have the round-table on Saturday at 16:30. I took a look at the embedded room schedule and that would be a good time after @Stskeeps and @rzr's talks, with no conflicting topic talks. Also it would make for a nice continuous Sailfish afternoon/evening: Carsten's talk, round-table, dinner.

The purpose of the round-table would be to discuss various technical and political topics face to face, that will require a discussion, while during dinner it will naturally break down into smaller (table sized) groups. Please propose topics in the comments to this answer and I'll build an agenda from it here. Please help prioritize by up-voting for the comments on this answer.

Agenda:

  • open source app community story - does Jolla really not care? (proposed by @tbr) https://together.jolla.com/question/13605/visible-open-source-app-community-supported-by-jolla/
  • App stores, package distribution in SailfishOS and real-life requirements (proposed by @Stskeeps )
  • accessing Sailfish APIs, building packages, application distribution, etc. (proposed by @MartinK )
  • SailfishOS on new devices. How can the community contribute? What do we need? What can be provided by Jolla? Licensing for community adaptations. Access to Jolla store. (proposed by @vgrade )
  • app security and interaction (proposed by @AL13N )
  • when to contribute to mer or nemo (proposed by @AL13N )
  • alternative application development languages (Python,...) and toolsets (SDL, Cairo,...) (proposed by @MartinK )

I'll not make it this year to FOSDEM.

Other question: is anybody at CLT in Chemnitz in March?

I will try to attend https://together.jolla.com/question/2513/sailfishcon-international-sailfish-developers-and-users-conferencesummit/
