Don't always save images email attachments to gallery

Image attachments in the email application cannot be viewed without being saved to the gallery. It would be convenient to first view the images, and only then to have the option to save them.

I find this feature quite handy, however it would prefer it if the email client would not use the standard photo folder, but a new one. This would also made it easier to delete old content.

+1 for the different folder on e-mail attached pictures

Same for documents.. I would prefer to see the attached image/document while reading the message and save it later if it's relevant enough for me to be saved. Most of the email attachments I get are things I do not want to archive.

Also, if I send pictures out with email from jolla, and then look at the sent email again, my gallery gets duplicate pictures.

Would like to push this further. Saving attachment mails into the gallery makes the whole gallery cluttered with stuff received from work mail etc.

I mean we hav 2017 by now. No one is working on the client it seems.

Mail attachements are saved in ~/Downloads/mail_attachments/<id>/<file>, see also here.

Saving the base64 encoded mail attachement to a file allows faster viewing later if you reopen the mail.

You can't distinguish normal images from mail attachements in gallery up.You can delete the mail attachement files from gallery up. But the attachements are not deleted when deleting the mail itself.

The handling of attachements is not transparent to the user.

the way maemo handles it is what the original poster is describing i think. images in attachments are still opened by the gallery app when you tap on them from email. but you immediately see that image, and that image only. you won't see the other gallery images in that instance of the image viewing app.

@droll: Yes. Using the viewer component from Gallery app would be the right solution. And navigating back takes you back to the still open mail view.

A long press on the attachement could show a menu where you could save the image.

Is it saving to the gallery, but under a tag/filter that says its an attachment? And if you tap on the details on that image from the gallery, can you see the email message it was sourced from/connected to?

In that case, this is a good feature. If that's not done, then I'd be like the OP and have that view-then-save feature enabled.
