I guess there are a couple of questions and comments on TJC regarding the new interface in SF2.0. Many people complain about the new cover buttons which replaced the gestures, or the arrangement of the events screen which does not feature peaking anymore and does also interfere with some former gestures and also the now missing first line of icons on the home screen. However, it is surely possible to adapt to the new arrangement of the screens and the cover buttons, and usually people only complain if they DISLIKE anything, but most people don't comment here if they agree with the new features and arrangement of the screen. I therefore decided to set up this poll to get a rough idea how the user base thinks about the new interface. Pretty straight forward. I will put in two answers:

1.) Yes, the new interface is better, I really like the new arrangement of the screens and I don't really miss the cover-action swipes. Please keep it as it is.

2.) No, I want the old style cover swipes back, and I want the swipe-up events screen and the quick-access-first-line-of-buttons as in former releases. Please revert the changes.

Please vote up for the option you prefer. (I know this isn't gonna change something in the first place, but it gives a rough idea how the users think and I'm probably not the only one curious about this. And, after all, even Microsoft was listening to their users and brought back the start menu :))

The options here are too big for voting. I would much rather have one vote per feature (covers, events, quick access all as separate).

This poll is, of course, not official. I made it to get a rough idea of the general opinion. I guess if people dislike the new interface, or only some parts of it, they could still vote for "NO" and it would be worth having a closer look to determine it further. If people mostly agree with the new style interface, fair enough, poll is over then.

I would miss the cover buttons, but it would work with the new click functionality too - not as good as the old style but still works. But this cannot be voted with both answers...

Well, I think the best way to get the cover buttons back would be to put events to where it was before :) But as I stated before, put in a "No" and we could eventually examine the "No"s further.

I upvoted "Yes" because there are skilled people who can provide patches to apply specific changes. An idea would be to improve and extend functionality of the patch manager from OpenRepos and make a fully integrated PatchApp (ie. Customize) with automated updates of all patches out of it, which will get official support and even patches from jolla. I think that's what people powered should be like. Patch manager is great, but it would be even better with official support from jolla.

This is to black and white, I want some of the new and some of the old... bring back gestures but keep the layout and solve other regressions like missing presences and swipe-lock.

Well, me too. Actually I want Jolla to bring the old gestures back. Jolla once was a gesture-based os, with 4 different gestures for the homescreen. Now there are only 2 left. If they would bring back the 4 gestures one would have the possibility to swipe through the caroussel by side-edge swipe (which was used for the ambience selection in former releases), use the old-style cover-actions by side-pull, access events by bottom edge swipe and access the app drawer by bottom pull. I'm sure you also want the quickstart first-line-of-app-buttons back (as virtually everybody misses them). So, it's save to vote for the "no" here:) I think the cover-action thing is really something Jolla will have to change back to swipes, since there is barely anyone supporting the wicked cover buttons. For more advanced gestures, it would be nice if Jolla would let the users decide if they want to activate them, e.g. they could offer a "simplified" mode without gestures (as the current SF2.0 release)" for new users and DAUs who need a button for everything, and an advanced, gesture based control (as the former SF1.0 release), similar to Android where users can also select a simplified mode with bigger buttons and less functions. However, I guess most of the users really miss the old gesture based OS!

Voted for 2) to express my disapproval for the changes made in 2.0 but like @inte above, I think having a default simpleton mode and opt in unlike features would be the way to go. That is, if there's going to be any future Sailfish versions. Jolla's staff is most likely concentrating their efforts in updating their resumes.

While I agree that things need to be made easy for new users or non-technical people, options must exist for more "advanced" features, so that power-users don't feel neglected.

Personally, I am avoiding as much as I can to update my phone to the new UI, simply because I find the initial form of interaction to be so efficient and useful.
