Update automatically current time by user-defined intervals or by long tap on system time ( lock screen ). On changing time-zones, the actual time will become updated an the user's domestic time will be shown in smaller captions & brackets underneath. Very practical, when traveling across time-zones without reliable internet/network access. Concerning privacy: no uplinks required neither.

I agree to that, even GSM should transmit a clock signal. I have never understood why we have to manually set the clock on mobile phones.

My Olympus photo camera can do this, as (I think) many other GNSS-enabled devices

@the_mgt: not sure what you mean, GSM transmits current time for a looong time already. Didn't have to manually set the clock for at least a decade

Although i think there is more important stuff to do for the devs right now, it sounds like an interesting idea.

On the other hand we already have automatic time change via network which shouldnt need to long of a connection to the provider (correct me if i am wrong pls) I would think that in case i travel to another timezone i have at least some seconds in some network for the phone to update time. So i dont see why this would be a feature SFOS 2 needs. Would you explain this to me @launchpad ? Maybe im just missing the point. Showing the time of home country/city in brackets beneath could indeed be practical

@Opus, @ScumCoder .... having traveled to remote regions or no local SIM-Card inserted ( e.g. Japan ) I had to adjust the system time manually. GPS/GLONASS is a highly accurate & globally available choice. That's why cameras or certain wrist watches ( e.g. Seiko ) are using it.

Of course it does. Or do you think that the "Automatic update" option in the "Time and date" menu is for eye candy?

I don't think I am blind and the automatic update was active. The following use case did not work for me. I will keep in mind to verify again, but not likely to change time zone soon. Perhaps someone else can validate this earlier on AquaFish.

Verify "automatic update " is turned on
Activate flight mode
after landing in different time zone deactivate flight mode

expected behaviour: phone should show local time zone

actual behaviour: old time zone was shown

work around: choose time zone manually

restriction: No wireless activated during this test

Thanks for the report. We do support operator cellular time info NITZ via timed (see e.g. https://git.merproject.org/mer-core/timed/blob/master/src/server/tz.cpp) however there have been reports that on some 4g networks this support is not working properly, due to MCC re-use (mapping of MCC to TZ is different for 4g vs 3g). So, this may be related to our internal bug JB#31637. To test if that is the case, please try setting your phone to 3g mode and then waiting a few minutes - if your time and date and timezone do get set correctly, then that confirms that this was an instance of JB#31637.
