in order to save space on internal memory, i deleted pictures and videos folders from home directory and created simlinks to pictures and videos folders on sdcard.. everything works great except that now, gallery displays my pictures and videos twice. once from home links, and another time from sdcard.

is there a way i can tell tracker not to do so??

I don't think so. Try to refresh the tracker. Once I tried this the tracking was good, but the camera photo roll got empty every time I closed Camera app.

Why just not to move older pictures to SD card? Or do you access them via file browser not via Gallery or similar app?

The day your SDCard will go read only (it seems like it will do that sooner or later, there been a number of peple reporting that Jolla "killed" their SDCard),then the tracker will not include the files photos anymore which makes it impossible to see the images in Gallery, you need to use a file browser capable to show images. This is what has happen to my SDCard, mounts read only and I'm missing ~1800 images from the gallery, I can see them if I use a file browser, but really suxxy user experience.

This question is very similar to https://together.jolla.com/question/17691/camera-cant-store-pictures-to-sd-card/

Just added there my script to automate this.

Also to add, I had this solution few months back and it was quite annoying. Reason was that the tracker was not updating on new pictures and it needed either a manual trigger to refresh all or reboot the phone.

Maybe this is solved in the latest versions of the OS.

Does it work now? If you take a picture does it appear in the gallery right away?

That is an expected behaviour. Simply don't bother with the symlinks. Tracker will index your SD card too, as you have discovered yourself.

Where is your multiplicate answer now?

Yes, a multiplicate missed opportunity.

To make it clear, I did not make the above an answer. I made it a comment. Someone else turned it into an answer. I feel honoured.

In sdcard, store pictures in hidden folder, begin name with . and tracker will ignore them

Or place an empty .nomedia file in any folder you do not want tracked. Works recursively.

You are confusing the question! He duplicated his tracker entries by symlinking and did not ask to hide items on the uSD!

Haven't tested this, but should work I think.

  • Create a folder on sdcard, eg. jolla-media
  • Create .nomedia-file to jolla-media folder so it won't be indexed.
  • Create Pictures and Video folders for symlinking inside jolla-media folder
  • Symlink ~/Pictures to sdcard/jolla-media/Pictures, etc.
  • This way tracker should index files through symlinks only
