Hi I am running the latest Jolla version and today i decided to download some new versions of my android apps. So I downloaded the latest Firefox release, too. I installed them by copying the files to /app/data. That worked for some apps, but not for all. So i removed every app from this folder and again copied the new versions to /app/data. After some restarts now all Apps at least start. But if i want to push the settings button in firefox or go to the settings from google maps, everything crashes. Firefox is not usable this way. I didnt found a solution for my problem, maybe because I didnt figured out the proper keywords. So I am sorry, if theres already a solution to this problem.

I hope that the problems are not related to the new versions, but to an unclean update process for android apps. Is there a way to get a clean update or to clean up this dalvik vm?

I really dont want to wipe my jolla. I remember that i once tried a how to to clean it a little bit and ended up with a nearly bricked phone.

Best regards, Tuep

I don't get what you're saying. Why did you copy any files /app/data?? If you want to update Firefox, why don't do one of the following:

  • download the installer (apk) of the latest version?
  • download the F-Droid store and update Firefox from there whenever a new version comes out?

Regarding cleaning android data, just remove Android support (Alien Dalvik) and restart the phone.

Why are you manually installing apps? Tapping an APK after downloading it or in a file manager will bring up the android installation screen which will check permissions and do all the copying for you? Maybe this screen will perform extra steps which you've missed?

I did it that way, because in the past it was the only way that worked for me. When i tapped the aps in the past there were stucked in a folder called incoming or similar and nothing happend. Maybe i will delete them again and try tapping on the apk.

I didnt want to use a third party store and because of that i didnt install fdroid.

It seems to work now. But of cause now are all app configurations lost again. If I want to update an app is it usually working, when i try to install the newer apk?

@Tuep You're much better off installing apps from F-Droid, than downloading random apks from the internet. Just saying...

F-Droid features only open source apps and builds them from source, often removing closed features from them. You can then check the code for yourself and reproduce the build, if you don't trust them. It still needs your approval for every application you install.

And of course there's no problem with updating apps with newer apks.

They way to clean dalvik vm (Andriod suport) is to reinstall it. That helped me with some app that crushing after updates. Sure I had to reinstall all Android apps also, but if you have no great knowledge of how Android subsystem works it is the fastest way.

Yeah that seems to be right. An its quite safe, the only thing that needs a little bit of time is to set up email etc.
