Notification for existing facebook message when internet connection is restored

Is there any way to get notifications for Facebook messages when the internet connection is restored? Currently if a Facebook message is received when the phone is offline, there is no notification that a message has been received when the phone goes online at some point later. As I understand it the phone should be checking for existing messages when it goes back online and notify the user that x number of messages have been received; the same way as it happens when the phone is always online.
We do have this problem, I've encountered this problem several times already, it is very annoying. It makes me loose timing in conversations.
