Will the latest move by jolla, "Sailfishing" the Fairphone offer enough reasons / sense for you to invest ?

► Official poll by Fairphone : "Which [OS] will make you get a #Fairphone2?"

Converted your answers to Wiki's as it's not a good manner to create a poll and gather karma points from the voted options. :)

And also what @Sthocs said. :)

Thanks ! I'm contributing under tight time constraints - so I'm learning by doing ;) ... thanks for your help indeed :) ! Maybe it's good to merge 2 of the replies given by @nick75 and @till as comments to Option [D] .... would I be allowed doing this ?

@launchpad, i don't think merging the three is good, they cover differnet aspects. [D] is still HW related. My suggestion, is more of the OS itself and the native apps running in Sailfish - regardless which phone you actually. Btw, I have converted my answer to wiki. Regarding answer by @till it is more closer to your [D], but I leave to @till decide.

No. Before Sailfish OS will be running & accessing Fairphone HW sufficiently well ( e.g. dual SIM or camera support ), the Fairphone will be long outdated again ...

This option is contrary to the philosophy of the Fairphone!

The idea behind the Fairphone is that you can use it for 5 years, which drastically reduces the eco-footprint of the device compared to phones that you use for only 1-2 years. One of the ways to achieve longevity is to be open to many OS options.

E.g. you run Sailfish early 2016. If Sailfish for whatever reason is no longer available/updated in 2019, you can easily revert to Fairphone OS (almost AOSP Android), or perhaps Ubuntu Touch if it has been made to work by then.

The other ways to achieve longevity are to provide user replaceable spare parts. Perhaps a camera module or motherboard could not only be repaired in 4 years, but they could even provide upgrades at that time.

I totally disagree. Unfortunately evolution in the phone industry is quite fast. Who does know what will be included in a smart phone in 5 years? Who can garantee it will be possible to find spare components to repair? Who is ready to pay today to stock spare parts? This is a lost battle. It is like inventing today the tower PC in a world where consommers are replacing PC with tablets or notebooks.

In the other hand they can also announce updates to the FP2. Because it is modular a new better camera module, motherboard(processor) and other parts can be made. With this kind of process a longer lifetime is possible to achieve. FP is also about fairness and sustainability, nobody buys it at the moment if one just wants to have the fastest phone on market.

I wanted to but FP and Jolla are taking so much time in deciding that in the meantime I have bought a JollaC and no longer needs a newer phone.

Sorry Fairphone, I like your ideals but also need to think about my own :)
