Hi all,

I'm having trouble using the compass orientation with HERE Maps on my Jolla. When I press the icon it says Compass needs to be adjusted (or something like that) and that I have to move the Phone in a 8 Form. But no matter how long I do it, nothing happens. Does someone else having such an issue or some advice?

I also get this message, but have no idea how to resolve.

I have added the attribute "bug".I get also sometimes this message. Maybe Android gps interface needs to be debugged or the jolla device has a problem. Note also the compass apps do not point into the correct compass direction.

I have the same problem. a working Compass is what would make this App perfect. The sailfishos Maps App needs a compass

Could be that since HERE Maps is an Android app, it does not have access to hardware sensor signals such as compass data.

A search gave me this: https://together.jolla.com/question/15911/android-navigation-apps-always-oriented-to-the-north/

Supposed to be have fixed in 1.0.4.20 release. Have been broken again in a later release, or something else?

it used to work. Not sure since which update it stopped working.

@Dam, ok, can still though be a problem caused by the interface between Sailfish OS and Alien Dalvik. There have been some changes to how Android apps work in the recent Sailfish updates, so something might have been broken. But it might also be something else causing this issue. And knowing that is used to work, is a good starting point for investigations.

I have this issue ever since I installed HERE Maps back in the days of Vaarainjärvi. Navigates fine, though. Compass passes test in CSD tool.

The compass seems to calibrate itself successfully, but for some reason alien dalvik doesn't realize.

Used to work for me too but not anymore. :/

It seems to be a driver related issue, regarding this official answer: https://together.jolla.com/question/73137/compass-calibration-stuck-at-33/?answer=73678#post-id-73678

It looks like this question is a dupe of that one.

Andy Branson ( 2015-10-30 10:30:56 +0300 )edit

Dobn't think it is related. Current versions of SFOS no longer get stuck at 33%, and compass calibrates fine (at least it does on my Jolla) - but HERE still thinks there's a problem. So the issue isn't the native driver, it is, as others have suggested, how the calibration detail is being passed to Alien Dalvik

i mean it does the job, but when i try to find out in which direction i should walk its confusing. Otherwise its perfect

I have experienced the same problems, starting mit 1.1.9 or 2.0.0 (don't remember). I tried readjusting as shown in the application - nothing really worked. Today, I checked the "Location" settings in the settings application. Location AND Faster position fix were turned on... Switched off "Faster position fix" restarted HERE app: clicked on readjustment and the compass readjusted itself perfectly.

I suggest to try that as well. Maybe my fix is a lucky coincidence, but hopefully it will work for others as well. This was bothering me for a while :)
