On my Linux desktop and on my 5+ years old Andr* phone Firefox is able to render various non-letter Unicode glyphs, which I often use in my own web-based appliactions instead of icons in order to save bandwidth. The web browser on my new Jolla cannot display some of them, even though sufficiently free fonts are indeed available. Some examples:

 ≋ U+224B TRIPLE TILDE
 ⌀ U+2300 DIAMETER SIGN
 ☢ U+2622 RADIOACTIVE SIGN
 ⋈ U+22C8 BOWTIE
➊ U+278A DINGBAT NEGATIVE CIRCLED SANS-SERIF DIGIT ONE
➋ U+278B DINGBAT NEGATIVE CIRCLED SANS-SERIF DIGIT TWO

Can the default font be made more complete, including for example the above glyphs? Alternatively, how can I add more fonts to the system and set up the web browser to use them?

Between dingbats, emoticon/emoji symbols and various languages, I think better support for unicode is needed.

And there are a few free fonts available, see https://github.com/googlei18n/noto-fonts for example. Or there is always dejavu: http://dejavu-fonts.org/wiki/Main_Page

The emoji keyboard from openrepos comes with a font that includes quite a few non-letter glyphs.

Indeed, useful arrow characters for CSS-only solutions are also missing: ▾ and ⌄
