my calendar often defaults to 'none' calendar. 'None' will not let me save a new event. I need to scroll to the calendar selector hidden under the text aera, and select a proper calendar... Calendar should not default to a 'none' calendar which does not even exist.

I see your piont, but as long as there is no default calender, it is a good solution to default to none and force the user to choose.

It would be nice if we could set which cal should be the default one, though.

yes. It's nonsense to default to a calendar thet does not exist.

The problem is - at least was - that when calendar "None" was selected, the UI happily let me "Save" a new event, which didn't get saved anywhere. I almost had myself in trouble a few times because of this, but clearly we have (had?) a rather nasty bug here.

As this requires removing the currently selected calendar from accounts - and I'm not willing to sacrifice my finaly-working CalDAV account here - I can't test this. So could please someone with 2.0.0.10 test the following procedure:

  1. Have 2+ calendar accounts
  2. Select one of them and create a new event in Calendar
  3. Delete the account in Settings
  4. Reopen Calendar and create a new event
  5. The selected calendar should now be "None" - leave it that way
  6. Try to create a "proper" event to "None" calendar and save the event

What happens? Does it let you through? If if does, we do have a bug here.

If so, does the event get saved in any of the calendars? If it doesn't, the bug is a really annoying one...

on my Jolla, the bug persists, first time I open the calendar most days, it's set to calendar 'none', so any event gets saved to nirvana.
