I received an SMS from a person's new phone number. This person is already in my contacts. From the SMS, i can swipe right and choose to Link with the intention of adding this number to an existing contact. Choosing the person from my contact list brings up the contact info with both the pre-existing Home phone number and the new, to-be-linked number neatly added.

This is where I stop short. How do I save this contact with the new phone number added? There's an Edit option available in the contact pulley menu, but this shows the contact edit UI with just the old phone number.

What am I doing wrong?

Ah.

I first deleted the existing Home phone number and tried linking again. Worked like a charm. I'll leave this here for posterity.

Am I supposed to close this now or what?

@ZZB You can convert your comment as an answer, and then accept it as the answer.

I managed to solve my problem, but I'd consider this a bug, that is, I expected to be able to link a phone number to a contact but could not. Retag as a bug and leave open? Sorry, just not sure how stuff works on here.

Similar problem here. Tried to link the Wife's work phone number to existing contact entry (with home mobile, addresses, birthdays, the usual stuff). However, when I selected the "incoming" new number from the recents lists and try to link it to the existing contact, nothing happens.

That's it - after selecting a contact to link to, you're finished. If you want to change the type of the number though, you'll need to edit the contact, after adding it.

I tried again with a contact I created in People and it worked: after selecting the contact to link to, I was returned to the SMS I started from. Trying to link to a contact imported from Facebook, it did not work. Instead I was stuck in the contact info screen and the phone number is NOT linked.

I can't actually link the contact from SMS to any existing contacts. Swipe right-to-left gives me the unknown number's contact card which gives me two options: link and save. Selecting link and let's me choose contact. After selecting contact it takes me to this person's contact card, and there is no accept option available, also the number isn't automatically linked to this contact at this point. Returning to SMS-page stills shows the person as nothing but a number.

I can get around this by selecting save, saving it as some-contact and then manually linking through People-app. After this the number disappears and the correct contact is shown in the SMS list.

@ZZB is this actually the same issue as what you have, or should I do my own bug report?

@Milo, that is exactly what I am trying to describe.

@ZZB okay, definitely feels like a bug now.

Hi, same problem with email actually. If you want to add an email to someone, you can only link and link doesn't work in most of the cases. Probably due to upsync that is not yet implemented, see https://together.jolla.com/question/7198/people-save-email-address/?comment=9179#comment-9179
