Location is not shown correctly when using Jolla in China

I'm visiting China for two weeks and using my Jolla here. In the maps application (both Jolla native and Google Maps) the GPS does not show correct coordinates, but they are always about 500m off the actual location. It seems to be pretty much exactly the case what is described in this blog post

Any hope for a fix? The Nokia phone of my colleague seems to show coordinates correctly.

Blog says Google Maps has corrected it, but guess not? Obviously GPS coordinate system as such is global. Basically the maps are incorrect because they've not been able to convert them correctly.

Well, that explains it. I am living in Shanghai and the jolla map is definitely off. I hope this can be fixed by the jolla team; after these few days jollaing I really prefer using native jolla apps whenever possible. Besides, Google Maps (which works well under Android) can not be installed via Yandex or .apk. From what I see, Locus Map (mentioned below) seems to be no alternative at all. Very rudimentary basic and rather old maps (2011) in the free version. It locates correctly but shows no details at all, thus not really useful.

The funny thing is that once I started to use Locus, the Google Maps also started to show correct coordinates in my Jolla. The native Jolla Maps is still having problems with the accuracy of location though.

I have the same thing in Hangzhou, it is for all China and there are methods to correct it, but I have no knowledge on how to implement them: http://www.sinosplice.com/life/archives/2013/07/16/a-more-complete-ios-solution-to-the-china-gps-offset-problem My E7 locates me correctly, whenever its GPS locks onto the satellites...

After 1.0.8.19 there is another update to the maps app, but the offset still presents, which renders the maps app unusable. :-(

OK, it seems that Locus Map application for Android seems to show the location correctly here in China. It's quite a nice application that also provides offline maps so I'll stick to that while I'm here.

Recently I spent 1 week in Beijing and to my surprise, the native map app in Jolla was not usable because of this. I also tried the Android Here app and the problem was exactly the same, the displayed location was about 500 m. off the real location.

Then I tried some other map apps like Maep and I realized that depending of the maps I was using, the location was accurate or not.

So the problem seems to be related to the map and not to the app: all the maps works great except the Nokia and the Google ones.

Unfortunately, the 2 maps app with driving directions I had were using Nokia maps. I had no app with driving directions which use OSM or other maps.

I do not know how Jolla can sell phones in China with this problem. Maybe there is no map app in the chinese version of the Jolla phone.

So how can we solve the problem of the Jollas sold in Europe not displaying properly the location in China when using the map native app? Any hint will be highly appreciated.

As far as I can tell, the Chinese govt. needs to provide their de-fuzzing algorithm to the map vendor. No other reasonable way.

So can we assume that for the next release the Jolla phones sold in Europe will receive an update to show the map with the same accuracy than the Jolla phones sold in China?

Nevertheless, a lot maps work great in China (OSM, OpenCycle, Mapnik...) thus it should not be so difficult to have something working properly!

I realised now that Poor Maps is also able to give driving directions, I should have given a try.
