Would it be possible to add in the g_hid usb gadget kernel module as well as patch in hid descriptors to allow the phone and tablet to present themselves as a keyboard and mouse?

This would allow using the phone/tablet as a USB Input device for a PC or laptop as a wacom type tablet device, or using a VKB app as a touchscreen keyboard.

Another idea I had was using the phone as a password manager, with it automatically typing in passwords over usb as a HID device.

example of what's required here

This. This is the most awesome-est feature request I've seen in a long time. I actually had a similar idea a couple of years ago ;) Have my 1-up!

it should be doable from outside jolla as well, i just need to figure out how to compile kernel modules and deal with possible conflicts with the current usb-mode-switcher stuff.

Great! Just imagine having encrypted stuff with really long passwords and then you just connect your Jolla and press a few buttons to fill in the password. So cool! Another cool USB mode would be pretending to be a memory stick so you could attach your Jolla to random computers without giving access to all your files.

Btw, if you have any luck with this, inform these guys: https://together.jolla.com/question/30969/would-it-be-possible-to-use-my-phone-as-a-touchpad/

Most likely not going to happen in official images. But kernel is open source so you can do it yourself for your device.

@r0kk3rz : Not too difficult to do yourself, adding this for Jolla is quite a lot harder since we have to rely on the android gadget which is mutually exclusive with what you want to do due to odm/factory requirements.

@Philippe De Swert, understood, odms always ruining all our fun, be good to tinker around with it anyway
