[idea] Jolla Phone v2 & business model for future [not a question]

My phone will soon be 2 years old - and I'd like to buy a new one - and I like Sailfish VERY much - especially SF2.0 - BUT I'd like the hardware to be better (nothing wrong with the old one, but hey - I always like my new things to be better than the old ones). So I was thinking - about the next Jolla phone... is there any sense in developing a whole new Jolla phone - maybe the Jolla team could select an existing phone hardware and adapt the Sailfish to that? Or thinking further You could select 3-4 platforms of different price/specs so we could select from those? One for business-users, one for multimedia-users etc. And since You would now get less money for the hardware - I'd be willing to pay a monthly fee, because You have shown that the updates are REALLY useful - now my Jolla is a whole lot better than it was 18 months ago... So please re-think Your business-model in the process also...

I'm personally hoping that they have some HW announcements in the SLUSH this week (Antti Saarnio is having a 20min speech on Thursday, 11:40-12:00 GMT+2).

That would be cool. Else I'd hope they team up e.g. with Puzzlephone for a new HW iteration. Or we could take a Fairphone 2 soon. Edit: but you are aware that Antti is leading the SW part of Jolla, not the HW part?

Of course they would not develop a phone from scratch, but rather take an OEM architecture and rebrand it, changing only the exterior appearance. Both ways are good: selling a phone on their own, and do the Intex way. Anyway, due to the scarce visibility that Jolla have, I think that adapting SFOS to a third-party phone (Intex) would reach far more possible buyers. This does not mean that they could not also sell their own Jolla-branded phone.

@dac, has there been any news who is the HW side leader? I just remember reading about the split and "We will announce something soonTM". And yes, I'm aware that he's the SW leader, but since I have no idea about the HW side, I'm hoping they would still announce future plans as a "joint" effort - but you might be right, they might just have news i.e. about the Sailfish Secure project. And I have a feeling that we will be hearing about similar news about PuzzlePhone and Jolla as we heard about Fairphone, since PP is making an unlocked version of the phone and are being (at least in IndeGoGo) quite interested about SailfisOS.

@raketti Well, not that I heard of (who is HW head). But let's see. Any good news will be good news ;-). Sailfish Secure would be awesome. Puzzlephone would be awesome (and I know about their attitude in Indiegogo, I followed it closely, and I pretty much like the idea). Own new HW would be awesome... Let's just hope it will be something great.
