Which phones is SFOS running on?

I'm still happy with my original Jolla phone, but at some point in the future I would like to switch to different hardware. So, on which phones can Sailfish OS be successfully deployed? And more importantly (bacause I would like to avoid the fuss of installing Sailfish OS myself): are there any plans of phones of different brands being sold with Sailfish preinstalled? Thanks!

PS: I just checked on Firefox OS - and they seem to be offering a lot of different hardware. Also Ubuntu phone is available on 3 devices. So - really - why not Sailfish OS??

No serious HW manufacturer would market a smartphone or tablet running an operating system that has no support from a strong, perennial development team.

Correct. That's why SailfishOS is a jewel. Many manufacturers might be looking for an open source (understand: easy to check, not necessarily free) operating system. But they will obviously demand long term support & development, plus a vivid application market. As I said elsewhere, the real juice will come from applications. This requires developers to be attracted by 1) a stable and perennial platform, 2) a profitable ecosystem.

I installed SFOS on my previous nexus 5 and it works very well. The only thing I have in my Jolla and not in Nexus 5 is double tap to wakeup... and I need it.

Officially available devices: Jolla phone and tablet.

planned: Intex device and puzzlephone.

unofficial ports: few devices, which ain't so pupular among usual people

EDIT: Fairphone 2 (first community edition, then official) as well.

Nexus series are popular among same geeks like us.

But the devices, that You mentioned are way too old. probably some geek are using it. and also IT geeks are playing with custom ROM.

@deedend That is sad :( according to one Finnish news article, SFOS are swimming in 0.3% of the mobile OS'es pie. Talking about the porting, AFAIK Sony and HTC are open to the enthuasists - but, it may void all warranties.

The PuzzlePhone is planning to have a "community" version of SFOS. Requests for a real official SFOS Brain were at this point "neither confirmed nor denied", how they expressed in on the campaign site.

The PuzzlePhone has to reach its crowdfunding goal -which doesn't seem to be going well- before running SFOS or any other OS for the matter.

@ApB They claimed that the phones will be manufactured and shipped either way, whether they hit the goal or not. I hope they are serious about that.

@dac Nice, didn't know that. Anyway. Personally i am not much fan of modularity plus the thing is quite big. So this quite kills it for me. Same for the fairphone 2 (size).

I also dislike the slightly bigger size of the PuzzlePhone and the Fairphone 2. But if they would be the only devices officially supporting SailfishOS in future, maybe I can live with that fact. I worry more about the lack of Android support and Exchange in such community versions of SailfishOS.

I were quite happy as I heard that maybe a Sailfish OS comes to the Fairephone 2.The OS is amazing, but I'm sorry, the hardware is a crap. I would know three persons that would buy the Fairephone withe Sailfish OS.

i am with you, but i see one problem with fp2: it has this lip around the display which might make gestures from outside the screen hard to perform. can anyone from the people working on a port comment in this?

I see one big problem with fp2: the price. It costs more than double than a comparably specced Chinese branded Android phone, such as Elephone or Meizu. A premium is ok but this is really too much.

IMHO the standard bumper on the N9 made the N9 pretty much unusable (while perfect without the rubber). I guess thats the same for the FP; except its part of the phone, not n additional / optional case.

The Indian manufacturer Intex is expected to start selling a SFOS phone in a few months, but nothing is yet known about availability outside India.
