[bug] Camera still shot mode cannot be activated, only video

Just a couple of weeks ago I noticed that I'm not able to activate still shot mode anymore. It is locked in video mode for some reason.

I pull down the settings and tap the still shot icon. The screen goes black and show still shot settings for a second before it goes back into video mode. Tried to tap all the settings but nothing helps. Reboot doesn't help either.

Camera works normally in Android apps like Signal.

Have a samilar problem here. Can't take still photos anymore though I can select still shot mode. Videos can be taken and photos work in Android apps. Problem appeared with the new year. On sylvester I was able to take the last still....

Have you tried un/reinstalling Camera? That would be the obvious first thing. Otherwise no idea.

@pichlo: Camera app is one of the Jolla apps that can't be uninstalled or reinstalled. Was my idea, too, but won't work.

Wizah, I would urge you to read this page https://together.jolla.com/question/30822/root-and-home-disks-full-and-causing-various-problems/ and issue the first commands ASAP!

I.e., execute in the shell:

devel-su
btrfs-balancer allocation

and examine the result as described on linked TJC page.

Eventually you still have the change to issue a balance command!

My filesystem is so clogged that I can't even remove files anymore, making the process a lot more troublesome. As a matter of fact I currently don't know how to resolve this problem. Gonna try the Juho's hack of using external SD card space eventually...

In my case this behaviour link with low space on internal storage. Try use balance procedure.

Thanks for the hint. I have 37% space left, though. About 5GB. Can this be an issue???

What I experience, though, are also problems downloading media in Android chat apps like Telegram or Whatsapp. I always get the error "No space left on SD card" (or similar). So it somehow hints in the low space direction. My real SD cards has plenty of GB free, though.

So I don't understand what's the problem with my device now.

How would I use the balance procedure? Just for tests...

Some times ago my SD card fail, and i have big cache data for Telegram with low space on internal storage. May be it is only combination of cases. After that i clean free space by delete some android cache data. Anyway try btrfs balance command, may be it help.

Ah, btrfs balance to the rescue.

But... I don't know what to set as parameters. All examples tell me /mnt/btrfs which I don't have.

btrfs balance start -v -dusage=0 /mnt/btrfs

doesn't work as well as

btrfs balance start -v -dusage=0 .

The latter one works and tells me 0 of 23 chunks were relocated. No effect in downloading Android chat media or taking still shots in the camera app.

I've looked here and here

Any further hints? :-)

PS: I'm also experiencing "App store registry errors" every other day since a week or so. I guess it's related... :-/

Thanks hyper_sonic, this was the perfect hint!

After trying command btrfs-balancer balance I ended up with message Failed. Please free up more space and try again..

Further on, command btrfs balance start / -dlimit=3 yielded output error during balancing '/' - No space left on device.

Searching TJC for "no space left on device" lead me to https://together.jolla.com/question/30822/root-and-home-disks-full-and-causing-various-problems/ Excellent description here...

Unfortunately I'm in the situation that I can't even remove or overwrite files (with echo or true command). So I will read further on that page and try my luck.

This is really a nasty bug which makes me hate Sailfish OS a bit. I've never seen any filesystem behave like this and it took me totally by surprise that the recommendation is to never use more than 7GB of the internal memory to be on the safe side. That's completely absurd.

I'm a software developer and know how to use the shell - SSHing the device from my Ubuntu laptop - but would should any other Jolla user do in this situation?? Grrrr....
