Could Shashlik solve the lack of Alien Dalvik for ports?

I just saw a video (https://youtu.be/9SC6c_ih_Ac) where Flappy Bird was able to run on desktop linux. The project can be found at https://github.com/shashlik. The lack of Alien Dalvik is an issue for SailfishOS ports. Having the option to tun select apps are a necessity for the ports to be successful. Could this be the answer?

apkd has been able to play games like various avian themed games for a while, so being able to run sdl2 games isn't super impressive.

but its good to see an open solution to these things starting to take shape, but the key in sailfishos is not so much the running but the integration into the main os

@r0kk3rz

Personally seeing people developing android stuff for SFOS makes me sad when there are many things that could be improved in the native OS.

@ApB: on the other hand, the most important for a platform to be successful is the amount of software available to it and the community behind. You can't get ignore that Android is the dominant platform for now, and thus SFOS needs to support Android Apps to stay relevant.

@DrYak totally get it but we need native apps. And people that care about the OS. The gesture interface is superior to anything out there and you can't showcase it to people if they have to use an Android app for ie. instagram or any other must have app for a phone.

The thing with Shashlik over our solution is that it will use it's own Android stuff, while we're using the CM ROM already installed on the device during the Sailfish installation procedure. We have come a long way from me managing to boot into CM from Sailfish, it's drawing to it's own window and we're getting close with passing through WiFi and Mobile Data to CM. We might be able to use parts of Shashlik in our implementation though.

Someone could try and modify the CM rom to work with Shashlik. But at this moment in time, networking doesn't work in Shashlik by the looks of it and some other stuff. Not sure how or if they are going to get sensors to work on a desktop computer, maybe simulate it or something, that would have to be modified in our case, and all the KDE framework integration will have to be replaced with Sailfish stuff.

UPDATE: Once Pure ports come about which won't come with an underlying Android base, then Shashlik would be the way to go.
