Upgrading your devices

This is the usual drill before attempting to upgrade your devices,

  • If you use Phonehook from OpenRepos, uninstall it before upgrading.
  • If you use Patchmanager, revert all applied patches before upgrading.
  • Take a backup of your data before attempting to upgrade your device. A successful backup operation is indicated by a green dot in the UI.
  • Do not reboot the device while the update is in progress.
  • The device screen may blank out during the update process, you may waken the display by a short press on the power key to monitor the progress.
  • Do keep the phone connected to a battery charger during the whole process.

For detailed instructions on updating software, visit Zendesk [ https://jolla.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/201836347 ].

If connected to the internet, and your account is subscribed for Early Access releases, your Jolla device should receive an OS update notification shortly.

Known issues

  • Google contact sync may sometimes hang up and drain the battery
  • PC connection mode (MTP) does not work with Windows 10 in all cases
  • In some cases pending updates for store applications or applications installed from 3rd party repositories may block the system update. Installing the application updates first should fix this.

Re "Android apps can send SMS": I once tried an Android app that didn't work because it needed to receive SMS, which didn't work at that time. Is receiving an SMS (=being notified of an incoming SMS and reading it) still impossible for an Android app? Or did I miss this in the release notes of a previous update?

I'm bit disappointed as some changes promised for Q3 2015 are still missing.... (https://sailfishos.org/developmentroadmap/)

optimisation is never finishing here :/ infinite loop, always asking for optimisation, can't install this update .... :/

Yeah, optimisation goes through and returns to the start of optimisation, no errors or anything but no progress either - how unprofessional :D

After try to fix this issue my phone don't boot anymore :-))) Try to follow this

instractions to reset it.

It may be usefull for somebody.

As I see in the logs, no updates on SIP. That are very bad news for me. Phone will be still in the closet as a game device. Production use without SIP is inconceivably for me . We see if some updates on the pulseaudio-modules changes the SIP situation.

Hoping that Jolla kernel, being 3.4, isn't vulnerable to recent security flaw CVE-2016-0728 http://perception-point.io/2016/01/14/analysis-and-exploitation-of-a-linux-kernel-vulnerability-cve-2016-0728/ which affects kernel versions 3.8 and higher. Are newer kernel patches back-ported to Jolla kernel?

I must say I'm quite pleased that my more than two year old phone is still receiving official updates like it's no big deal.

Edit: that said, I'm unable to install the latest Maps update, for some reason I got the really old 1.0.13 installed again. What do?

nthn ( 2016-01-19 20:53:43 +0300 )edit

OK, for me a 'btrfs balance start -dusage=100 /' did it - but be careful (see vlad's comment above)

elastic ( 2016-01-19 21:15:42 +0300 )edit

I can't seem to edit my previous comment, so: seems like there is no Maps update and my situation occurred because I used version --dup to update as the normal way didn't work. I'm assuming something from OpenRepos, likely some sort of patch, being the culprit once again. I'll just uninstall patchmanager altogether and see if I run into any more trouble with future updates.

nthn ( 2016-01-19 21:23:49 +0300 )edit

Downloaded and installed OK. Did a had reboot and so far all appears to be running well. Excellent work. Will now run some more comprehensive tests.

To all of you having space issues, I answered https://together.jolla.com/question/126942/2017-optimization-loop/?answer=126977#post-id-126977 and you are probably reading the output wrong, the important bit is from btrfs fi show the devid 1 output after used - you need to free up space so chunks can be reallocated. Not to mention that this is like this with every upgrade ever since, on all systems, any kind, having your rootFS filled up is a very bad thing! If you need to have 10GB of android junk, get a reasonably sized uSD and use my shared space how-to!

chemist ( 2016-01-19 22:27:29 +0300 )edit

You can create your own keyboard layout if you want to.

@TheOwlEye - I've already posted a question regarding the lack of described SD card format settings.

Problems for latest update should be posted mainstream, not here.

Android navigation apps still can't save maps to the sd :-( or did I miss something - tried with two cards (32 and 16) - how exactly can android apps access the sd now ...

elastic ( 2016-01-20 03:35:57 +0300 )edit

The photos inside the folder of Tumblr (or any other app i guess) can't be seen in Gallery, there's no link with the sdcard, since the folder is in Android_storage, and photos end up there instead of /media/sdcard. Nothing has changed.

Add gallery folders for cloud services, as there is one for Facebook.

But unlike current implementation, allow user to edit/share, save pics etc from cloud (saving would of course be to phone, not cloud directly).

Other than that, seems to be ok upgrade so far (also seemed to fix nagging about "sim card inserted").

(not actually an answer, but this seems to be way to add suggestions here)
