Upgrading your devices

This is the usual drill before attempting to upgrade your devices,

  • If you use Phonehook from OpenRepos, uninstall it before upgrading.
  • If you use Patchmanager, revert all applied patches before upgrading.
  • Take a backup of your data before attempting to upgrade your device. A successful backup operation is indicated by a green dot in the UI.
  • Do not reboot the device while the update is in progress.
  • The device screen may blank out during the update process, you may waken the display by a short press on the power key to monitor the progress.
  • Do keep the phone connected to a battery charger during the whole process.

For detailed instructions on updating software, visit Zendesk [ https://jolla.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/201836347 ].

If connected to the internet, and your account is subscribed for Early Access releases, your Jolla device should receive an OS update notification shortly.

Known issues

  • Google contact sync may sometimes hang up and drain the battery
  • PC connection mode (MTP) does not work with Windows 10 in all cases
  • In some cases pending updates for store applications or applications installed from 3rd party repositories may block the system update. Installing the application updates first should fix this.

Even with the risk to get flamed here... Is there now a final release date visible for v2.0.1.x ??

I know that there was still a bug to be fixed but it's now more than 3 months past and still no official update available.

Can somebody tell a date?

My speculation is that there will be no "official" updates until Intex phone launch.

@veskuh told us that they tried two times to fix it with no result and are in the process of changing their design to fix it. So no date yet.

@ApB Ah good information. At least it is still under development. I just would like to get this update officially told with a simple info on a channel like here in TJC. It is sometimes annoying to collect the necessary information through various websites and forums...

Yeah, let's say "annoying" ^^

Is it too late to patch CVE-2016-0728 in 2.0.1/Taalojärvi ?

Thank you for the new features and also for patching 6 vulnerabilities. This is why I <3 Jolla!

Today Debian released its patch for CVE-2016-0728 which is a serious linux kernel vulnerability and in theory could be exploited on Sailfish OS via a malicious app.

More details of the vulnerability CVE-2016-0728 here: http://perception-point.io/2016/01/14/analysis-and-exploitation-of-a-linux-kernel-vulnerability-cve-2016-0728/

While this concerns the tablet (3.10) phone's kernel is 3.4... did you check if it is vulnerable as it says >=3.8?

chemist ( 2016-01-20 11:40:40 +0300 )edit

good remark @chemist
i doubt that the kernel issue concern jolla for the phone in this case... :-) The tablet indeed... https://together.jolla.com/question/119621/will-there-be-a-linux-kernel-update/?answer=119860#post-id-119860

cemoi71 ( 2016-01-20 12:19:52 +0300 )edit

as it is essentially an android kernel (where 3.4 has seen heavy backporting), I guess that the vulnerable feature may have been backported to Jolla's kernel as well... see https://www.reddit.com/r/linux/comments/41opdo/serious_linux_kernel_vulnerability_patched/

tad ( 2016-01-20 22:40:51 +0300 )edit

maybe more interesting for jollaphone users: will 'Elevation of Privilege Vulnerability in Qualcomm Wi-Fi Driver and Qualcomm Performance Module CVE-2016-0806 [ANDROID-25344453] CVE-2016-0805[ANDROID-25773204] Severity:Critical' be fixed in final release?

I am having a strange problem. I have got the notification for the update and when I click "Start Optimizing" it goes to about 70% and then just quits. I have tried this a few times with the same result. Has anyone faced such a problem before?

ya i had the same problem, restarted 2 times, connected and disconnected device to pc at last after trying again optimizing 2-3 times at last done.

vishal ( 2016-01-20 07:59:48 +0300 )edit

also same problem. df shows I have 2.8GB available, but optimizer just quits around 70-80% mark

tetris11 ( 2016-01-20 10:51:39 +0300 )edit

i got the same Problem here, it seems to finish the optimization but then goes back to showing the optimization page as if nothing had happened

I think this is because the rebalance can't complete. I did one manually a week ago and needed 4.5gb free for it to complete. Someone somewhere else I saw had to free up over 5gb. Once the filesystem gets stuck it often needs loads of room to be able to fix itself. You're probably noticing some weirdness and/or slowdowns in this case. Check out the btrfs rebalance thread for an avalanche of info.

vitaminj ( 2016-01-20 12:56:12 +0300 )edit

ooh hang about! I think you're right - I just now got the notification that the optimization was complete. It had probably finished rebalancing.

The update was a success for me. But, since this update, I lost data connection regularly (once per day in general). To restore data connection, I should enable then disable flight mode or reboot my phone. The 4G icon still display, but if I need datas (on email app for example), the pop-up to select data connection (Mobile or Wifi) appears. Select Mobile data has no effect.

I don't have this trouble before that, and I don't change anything (I use my phone at the same places). The workaround works every time.

Quoting @ossi1967 here "Re "Android apps can send SMS": I once tried an Android app that didn't work because it needed to receive SMS, which didn't work at that time. Is receiving an SMS (=being notified of an incoming SMS and reading it) still impossible for an Android app? Or did I miss this in the release notes of a previous update?"

I was also hoping this can be done in the future. Giving android apps access to received SMS, especially those that would not show up as a normal SMS on any modern OS (registration SMS for a few services etc.)

I tried to make the o2 voice over wifi app work on SailfishOS, sadly I cannot patch through the confirmation SMS to the app.

native ownCloud integration with Calender sync would be nice (see: ownCloud integration in Gnome)

Yes, caldav is already working and there is an owncloud-ap - but not integrated ;)

@Kea: if the source code isn't distributed under a free license, you have no way to determine whether it is actually secure or not, so you should always assume it isn't. You wouldn't hire someone to put locks on your house if you had no way to verify whether the locks actually work, even if that person might make claims that their locks have never been broken.

For a short list of possible trustworthy alternatives, feel free to take a look at https://prism-break.org/en/all/#file-storage-sync

Remember, there is no cloud, just other people's computers.

After update, some apps like Web browser / settings / specially Android apps causing high cpu usage even working in background :/ Unfortunately as I did not noticed that immediately - again I have yellow stain on my screen - due to overheat. I notice that qtwebprocess sometimes keeps constant 70% CPU usage.

This update broke my screen and I have yellow stain again :/

To protect agains further and bigger stain I close settings/all android apps/ and web browser always closed after usage. But I'm loosing main Sailfish main feature multitasking :/ - thats sad.

Best regards, Mariusz

Installing the update fails, it claims "installation aborted by user".

Here's an excerpt from /var/log/systemupdate.log: https://gist.github.com/schmittlauch/e2e26e4d9611a305ef7c

update: Although no updates for the apps are displayed, reinstalling the app package using pkcon seems to fix at least this problem.
But for me another problem appeared afterwards, see comments

There is probably an update available for the Meecast application in store, try installing that first and then try the system update again.

This is actually a known issue and we will add it to the list.

Keto ( 2016-01-20 02:49:23 +0300 )edit

happened here too. ssu release was (again) set to latest.

after ssu re 2.0.0.10 the update worked without further hiccups

dmnk ( 2016-01-20 09:49:08 +0300 )edit

There are no updates for Meecast, at least none are shown in Jolla Store or Warehouse app. Nevertheless updating fails.

schmittlauch ( 2016-01-20 20:49:05 +0300 )edit

btw, ssu re already was at 2.0.0.10 after the failed update.

schmittlauch ( 2016-01-20 21:06:23 +0300 )edit

Reinstalling the packages using pkcon (in my case harbour-meecast) at first seemed to fix the problem. But now the update failed at a later point during the update (see log)

Hi, notice: I run 2.0.1.7 on a Nexus 5. I've found 2 annoying issues with this new release:

  • There is no more the day calendar events in left pane (the one with quick settings, feeds, weather, ...)
  • I don't receive voicemail notification anymore

The same for me with an official Jolla and Free mobile in France. This bug had been corrected several versions ago but I get it again since Taalojärvi.

In day that I updated my jolla on 2.0.1.11 I received a big problem. My battery is drain now. After 4-5 hours my device is discharged from 100% to 10%. And this 4-5 hours it just lay in my pocket, not used so hard. I turned of wifi, bluetoth, android support, but it was ineffectually.

Help me please, what can I do?

This happened often after updates, you need to wait maybe several days (2 or 3 max) till it goes back to normal behavior. I'm not sure if I remember the reason correctly but it was something with filesystem optimization that took some time because it runs only in idle mode. After the optimization everything should work normal again. Maybe somebody else can explain it better. For me it didn't happen this time but It happened at version 1.4 or 1.7..

Thanks for your answer, but I'm doubt about it. I updated my phone more then 2 weeks ago.

Install 'Crest' from the Jolla Store, and see if there is anything at the top that is using a lot of CPU. If everything is more or less 0.0% (or 1%, or 2, but not much more than that), select 'Apps only: On' in the pulley menu to show system processes, and check again for anything using a lot of CPU. Don't mind the processes called 'booster'.

nthn ( 2016-06-10 21:25:10 +0300 )edit

nthn, thanks for your answer. You were beside ;) One days ago I solved my problem myself. 'Lighthouse' helped me. I have looked on my process and after several minutes I noticed that app 'SAIOLORGRAM' appeared there. But I didn't launched it. After deleted this app my battery don't drain anymore. Thanks all for your advises.
