Dear all, dear Jolla people,

Just tried to buy another Jolla Phone online. Turns out that credit card payment is handled by paypal only. So in the process of buying the phone one has to create a paypal account.

The form provided by paypal feels like it's made in the 1990ies because when it discovers an error you must start over by entering all the information again.

Jolla, if you want to sell more phones I suggest you offer a slicker form of payment and provide a choice that does not involve paypal. FYI the order I wanted to place today is not processed and I don't know if it ever will.

Very much disgruntled!

You did not need a paypal account to pay something paypal with a credit-card, at least last time I checked. But yes, have BTC and SEPA!

Well, now that is the only option if you live outside of Finland. When you check "paypal or credit card" as payment you get redirected to the paypal side immediately. When I bought my first jolla last year the process worked without paypal.

I have encountered something like this on other sites, and have been told that paypal now requires an account in Europe.

I have not been told why.

At least in the past you could pay with CC without registering to PayPal (the payment page asked you to login/create account or click below to use CC without registering iirc), but if they do require you to register these days, it might have something to do with the EUs personal data storage policies.
