Allow Jolla phone to run on powersource without battery

The phone stucks in bootloader while turning on without battery but connected to power source. It would be perfect if it could run without battery on power source as a desktop. Since there is no spare battery (except one thirdparty from ebay) I believe every Jolla can become a desktop machine.

Not being able to run without a battery is a "feature" dating back to Nokia times. It sucks big time.

Isn't the battery kind of voltage regulator + UPS, so the “feature” is actually a protection against electric stress?

You would need a (high) capacitor connected to the phone instead of the battery.

Referring to your desktop machine, I might have got you wrong, but if you expect that you can connect your Jolla to a monitor, that won't work as it lacks any video output option.

Well, I guess @mmika meant a small desktop machine :-)

Yes. I meant some sort of small server machine like intel stick powered by USB. Well "desktop" was used in wrong context.

I thought so, too. Just wanted to make sure ;). I always wait for the battery to get below 20% before I start my little desktop server with display on so it wouldn't charge too quickly. I've always wanted to try that capacitor trick, so thanks for reminding me again. Will report my findings, just ordered some capacitors.
