A Jolla Phone 2?

I'm not asking which ingredients you want ..there are enough threads for it. Of course things like spare batteries are a must..better hardware is automatically thanks to technical evolution.

But Jolla as the hardware seller...or the new Jolla hardware company that we never heard of since it was founded (or isn't it still?)

I personally would like to buy it. Screensize could even stay but I would like that the TOH stays just to have possibilities in comparison to other phone makers.

I think Jolla/ Jolla Hardware should always make one top class phone as reference design, similar to Google Nexus devices..just more unlike and therefore better ;-)

I would be customer again!

If "I would be customer again!" is the question (it is the question, is it?) my answer would be: 42.

Anything else? Ah, well, don't do drugs ...

unfortunately Jolla is so bankrupt they can not even offer spare batteries. And the Jolla Shop looks like soviet union: Empty shelves, everything on display is sold out. Batteries (akkumulators) are not even on display. Good old communismn..... but I like my Jolla anyways. Many design flaws, ok, but not that bad like the Ubuntu phone (which is really far away even from beta testing, IMHO).

So what is the question at all? If Jolla failed to make it? Sure. Now I have it I like it and use it up. No spare parts? Prone to become garbage. What is different from chinese way doing it??

42, I can not see anything that makes sense.

I bought my Jolla about 1 month ago. I have switched from Galaxy Note 2. Although worse specs its software is brilliant. I would definitly buy another jolla as soon as it is released. I really hope that Jolla company will be able to outlast in os battle, because their child, Sailfish, is the most wonderful operating mobile system in the world.

I would buy any new model that comes with SailfishOS pre-installed. (No "community-ports", that is.) It wouldn't make any difference if it's made by Jolla or any other company. There's just no alternative if you're looking for a GNU/Linux phone with a desktop-like distribution. I once thought Ubuntu would be an alternative to Sailfish - until I tried it. Although it's hard to believe for those who complain how many features Sailfish lacks in comparison to Android and iOS: Ubuntu is even worse. So: Yes, I buy a new phone from Jolla,

YES, definitely!

For me personally Jolla/Sailfish is by far the best mobileOS. Some reasons:

  1. Alternatives are bad - I have to use Android on my company phone and I don't like it , and/or overpriced
  2. More open then the alternatives (Developer mode, community involment,...)
  3. I like my Jolla phone, it is >2 years old, specs are not that good, still works like a charm and didn't get any slower since day 1!
  4. Europe based - yes, I am a bit Euro-patriotic :-)
  5. Privacy - No big data-sucking company developing the OS

LONG LIVE SAILFISHOS!

Who marked this answer as "correct"? Can there be a correct answer in a survey??

Stefanix ( 2016-01-24 22:20:08 +0300 )edit

@Stefanix your right it couldn't be just one, according the feeling of all. i'm behind this yes here, behind yours and one below. and other are for a no which i would respect if the real fact are given. And the point of your correctly explain. All the no is for me until now without fact and explained point of view. Just frustrations... that sad... can't understand the reaction of some people.

cemoi71 ( 2016-01-26 00:02:46 +0300 )edit

Sorry i'm wrong. a good answer for me was from jolladiho https://together.jolla.com/question/127477/survey-would-you-buy-another-phone-from-jolla/?answer=127549#post-id-127549 If the someone has no money for it, they obviously he won't invest on it. first we should care of his own.

Yes, I would, too!

I really like the UI, and like you said, it's an European mobile OS. I don't want everything to be dominated by 2-3 big US companies.

Yes, if I can be sure that the SW will be supported and further improved at least for the next 5 years. HW could be better, e.g. camera, speaker, display, but the OS is more important. There is not really a trustworthy alternative to SFOS.

Yes
because Jolla convinced me (and prove it) that they are motivate to develop a system more transparent and more private sphere friendly as possible.
On the contrary that we can see with the other big ones. Even if they have not the same capacity like the robot, the apple and the window. They are pretty reactive. And tada! that is an European actor that is a important point for me.

Reactive? In what way? Aggressive non-speaking? Burn money immediately and faster then earning it? Answering complaints not at all or with groundless promisses???

@Moo-Crumpus "Aggressive non-speaking" what did you have expected? they have communicate that they were in difficulties, they have communicated why, and told at the time that they were back in business. And told that in their struggle that they have lost a lots of things, and all the promisses would not comes be realized (especially concerning the tablet). And have really explain that what they want to do. What do you need more? tell it please! i find that screaming overall that they make wrong make the the problem that you think (i don't know what is your problem, i dont read in mind) won’t make it better, is not helpfull non constructive. Sorry i don't want to look down on you, that is for me not understandable.

you tell burn the money, but before they lost their investor, then that was so much people who wanted this from jolla, then wanted that from jolla. And they did it pretty much things. And was not bad they had the security the investors was behind. Why should they not invest in some things when someone is behind? And we were behind too! for the tablet was so much investors, and people who told and claim "i am behind jolla"." I'm here and get the tablet." And now after the first storm all should be gone? They told that they investes with the money. What is now the problem?
Do someone calculate in what they should invests?
Do someone calculate how much cost 100 people?
According to this http://www.worldsalaries.org/finland.shtml If we admit that all would have the same salary, each people would earn 3,598€ without taxes (5th position), and not forget that the firm should pay something too for the person (pension, insurance), we are over 4000€.
We take 4000 x 100 = 400.000 IN ONE MONTH!!!! ohoh! what does it means for one year? 4.800.000. Just on peoples, and what is with business travel? materials, investment for hardware, tests, prototypes, advertisements. investor and customer acquirement?

I don't want to look down on you, but by as i understand what they told, they want and wish to make their best to satisfied the people, but could not satisfy all. they want means that they should work on something to reach it. That's not mean that they reach it 100%, and in this context should they not make promise based on speculation, because it will be a ly. Is just a matter of patience. They are reactive yes because they do their job, don't tell too much and too few. And in between we see that they are on working.
@Moo-Crumpus Did you that they are on the way for the next sfos release?

cemoi71 ( 2016-01-25 23:51:11 +0300 )edit

@Moo-Crumpus for further argument from my side i give you this one, an intersting discussion about salary and what should pay the firm in germany: http://www.gutefrage.net/frage/was-zahlt-der-arbeitgeber-zusaetzlich-zum-bruttogehalt

@Moo-Crumpus now that's your turn! please tell your problems with fact and what you think with arguments. Thx in advance

i have always used nokia phones. symbian was my os before.. then i hadn't the chance to nokia n9. . but again i waited for this mobile to be released .. living in india i was ready to ship the phone by a relative of mine. but it had released in india and bought it first :)

Though not all the customer's desired implementation are put in the os.. I still love jolla as a phone <3

No, but I would buy a Sailfish powered phone made by one of Jolla's licencing partners, including the "Jolla hardware company".

Presumably "licencing partner" implies that such a phone would have Android support, at least until there is a viable ecosystem of native SFOS apps. After TabletGate, a proven track record in delivering consumer hardware is important for SFOS too, I believe. With these qualifications, have an upvote :-)

pakman ( 2016-01-24 17:16:54 +0300 )edit

:-) haha @jollailija this answer is not bad. the man in the middle. that is not NO, but not Yes too.

cemoi71 ( 2016-01-26 00:04:16 +0300 )edit

Yeah, even though I don't use Dalvik I think it's important for new users so they can be in their comfort zone while learning the ways of SFOS.
As Jolla doesn't design their own hw and it would likely be made in China, I don't care about the manufacturer. Also, keeping the current situation in mind this approach would get them more money with less hassle (shipping&warranty will be handled by hw maker not Jolla)

I've come to believe the "#unlike" tag of Jolla means they don't like us... No listening to the community and keeping source closed.

I agree. I pre ordered the Jolla 1 without a doubt. I supported the Indiegogo project without so much as a thought.

But now, I'll be more cautious. I've already replaced the Jolla by a Lumia 950 xl for daily use (Jolla were still in surseance at the time and I was interested in Windows 10 Mobile), so I don't have room for another experimental OS.

I use an HTC for my work and 'must have' applications. Neither Sailfish, nor Windows is ready yet to take over this role completely. It's quite impressive how far Jolla has already gotten compared to a corporate giant, and I still like to think that Jolla can make it. But right now, I won't buy a Jolla phone just to support the company.
